Quick summary of 1sts action at the weekend:

Saturday
TSJ 133 a/o (Nelly 46, Paul 28), Rochdalians 124 a/o (Paul 4-40, Scunners 3-very few)

A superb bowling and fielding performance which at one time had the league's most consistent batting side tottering at 13-6! Why are we so good at defending small targets? Good early batting saw us to 105-3 but then the wheels came off and it needed some good late hitting from Craig and Nick to get us to 133. Then we demolished the top order and kept in there all the way, despite Dalians mounting a spirited fightback. Very tense at the end and a superb effort from all the bowlers - Matt chipped in with 2 great wickets, Bird kept up the pressure and we did the early damage!

Sunday (Cup Q/F)
ELPM 200-7 TSJ 165-9

So the cup dream is over for another year, and ELPM ran out deserved winners. But for a couple of sharp missed chances it could have been a different story but the depth of the Millers batting saw them post a commanding total. At 84-3 with 21 left, we were looking neck and neck but then myself and Nelly were out in successive balls and the wheels fell off. Some terrific hitting form Matt and Mozzer brought us 40 runs at the death, but it was all too late ... a lovely day, but the match was played in somewhat farcical circumstances with the Millers ground absolutely COVERED in goose droppings. Not pleasant at all!

Friday, May 28

Happy Birthday Clive! good luck at the weekend boys tell Freddie to hit a few Home Runs for me ( sorry I ment 6's )
Cheers lads - lets try and make it a weekend for me to remember with 2 good performances !!
Actually Matt you're right - we all do feel bloody old when you're bowling!
Chaps,

After last night's committee meeting, I have taken the plunge and added one of the cricket games to eBay ...

Quicksingle!

Hopefully there will be some interest.

I am going to approach the NMCL webmaster and ask if we can advertise on there too (as it's a club fundraiser).

keeping it real for the youth - there's going to be another scene!
Many happy returns cliff. Bloody hell everybody's old! Its a good job cotters is keeping it real for the youth!!!
In honour of the birthday boy, it might be worth remembering that fantastic moment at 'Dalians last season when he hit a 6 over point and signalled it himself. Of course we then went on to get comprehensively stuffed on a day when about 9 catches went down (including me dropping one off Nick on a hat-trick - argh). Not forgetting Craig getting skulled and Dasher too (though it didn't appear to affect him!)

But it was good winning there in the cup with Dickie P coming of age and hammering the ball into peoples cars!

Let's hope for more of the latter and less of the former tomorrow!
Happy 32nd Birthday to Clive - the oldest swinger in town!

The famous Brooks slog-sweep!

Hopefully a big turn out at nets this evening. I Should be down there at about 7ish. Two big games at the weekend so lets be ready and up for it!!!

Monday, May 24

Very very impressived win against a more than useful side ... Strauss was fantastic and I thought Jones and Harmison bowled superbly yesterday. Well done Nasser for stickign 2 fingers up to the critics even though I think it's time for more young blood ... interesting to see what the line up is for the next game.

Looking forward to the nets tomorrow, particularly as my last 2 knocks on Crompton Meadows have lasted 1 ball and 2 balls respectively, even if both were cut short by LBW shockers!
Yes! Come on England - what a victory!
Complacency in that we seem to be following good games with bad ones. At Rugby the time when you are most vulnerable is when you've just scored. It maybe isn't complacency - but consistency should be striven for as I hate roller coaster rides!
Who's complacent?
2nd kick up the arse for us - most disappointing thing is Clive's hard work not being rewarded with anything like a competitive game. Can I be so bold as to demand a larger 1st team presence at nets tomorrow night - 6.45pm - and we'll actually get the net out! We'll use a proper wicket and also do some fielding. Two games again at weekend - but worse thing about us is complacency - we should all be wanting to improve upon individual and team standard.

Sunday, May 23

2nds made up for the 1sts disappointment on Saturday beating Greenfield today. Chasing 172 they passed the score with 7 wkts down mainly thanks to Jonesy who scored 59 with everyone else chipping in. Well done boys.

Friday, May 21

Good reply by England though 136 for 0 at tea. Looking forward to tomorrows top of the table clash! COME ON!!!
I see Chris Cairns has been having a good morning - 82 off 47 balls! We've just bowled out NZ for 386. I played against Cairns once, when Warwick played a 1 day friendly against Nottinghamshire - we lost in the final over; needing 15 to win, fell 6 short. I can remember it for three things - 1) it was a very quick wicket and I got Tim Robinson out with a bouncer, 2) mooing at Cairns the big slogger and 3) running down the track and getting stumped off Andy Afford for a fourth ball duck in the run chase!
never mind her - I didn't even get to blow me candles out!
That's awful news re Emily - hope she's getting good care from the medics! Get well soon!
Yes I think we may be partaking in a few scoops at the wheel-tappers and shunters club to celebrate victory and me birthday. (Celebrations organised for last night had to be curtailed due to Emily breaking her arm - women are soooo attention seeking!).
Would I do such a thing peter!

Thursday, May 20

hi boys, good luck at the weekend. Happy Birthday CDO. Cotters are you toking the p#&s ( I'm blaming it on jet lag )
Of course old man! So are we going to drink plenty of paul wheelers on saturday after the game?
proud of calling me old man coe?
I'm very proud indeed!
100? we've had that in May - do you mean 1000th?
Kieran,

Many happy returns and may you celebrate the passing of another year in the same way as Bird and grab us a ton at the weekend eh? 37 - my lucky number too.

Matt, congrats - your post re rollover was the 1000th we've had!

(edited!!)
Its a rollover again this week fellas! The prize fund will be around £55 tbc.
Happy Birthday Old man Coe!
another year passes on my voyage to the great hall of immortality where my soul shall be received by Odin himself and I will be enshrined along with my fellow warriors in Valhalla. Either that or I'll die and worms'll come eat me up! Anyway 37 today - cheers.

Tuesday, May 18

Another BIG weekend !!
Chaps,

Probably not going to be at nets tonight, so have liaised with KC re weekend selection to face the "Catholics". Enjoy the sunshine tonight and will see you at the weekend!

Interesting to note that there's always a disciplinary issue when I miss a game! Behave yourselves!
Fair cop guv! What an idiot!!!!
Matt Cotton - 20p locking keys in car.

Monday, May 17

Bird,

Think it's a different M Tayab - Mo took 7 wickets for RCC in opening week ... unlikely that he started the season and then moved? We'll find out on Sat I guess! I note we're joint 3rd now!
Hi all

Just noticed on NMCL site - looks like Mo Tayab may have left RCC for Rochdalians? Might be a coincidence, but M Tayab scored 56 for Dalians v Paper Mill on Saturday. Paper Mill lost again! - but scored 300+ yesterday v Dalians in Lancs Cup - its a funny old game.
Blimey - sorry I asked!

Still, at least we're still in a cup that matters! ;-)
Failsworth 185 for 9 - Totts 85 all out Me 1-17, Rob 0-20, Russ 3-39, Nic 2-10 Craig 1-20ish & Scunners Carted!! Diggers batted well and got 26 ish and that was it really!
What news from the cup game yesterday? Scores and performances?
Fantastic win for the 1sts on Saturday at a sweltering Robbies. Bird formed the backbone of our disappointing 119 with a stylish 37, but a tremendous bowling and fielding display saw us roll over the hard-hitting outfit for just 69 (Paul 5-22, Russ another 4 wickets, Scunners a good opening burst). Well done everyone!

Friday, May 14

A groom configurator - you used to have to buy a girl's mag to mix and match dresses....
Well as its friday afternoon I might just do that! Cheers Birdy!
Matt - brochure in my car. If you wish you could always spend endless hours of fun on our website i-do.uk.com - this allows you to dress a mannequin with our range etc.
Bird if you remember can you bring one of your brochures tomorrow. Cheers
Who on earth is Paul Wheeler when he's at home?

Come on!!!

Gents,

A possible marketing and moneymaking opportunity. It's one to discuss properly at committee but I'd welcome your input. I have been able to negotiate us a deal to get a cricket board/card game at a relatively low price. It retails in the shops for about 20 quid. I am proposing to sell it online and plough profits back into the club.

Quicksingle cricket game

What do you think?

Wednesday, May 12

Bonus Ball winner this week No. 28 (Scott Parkinson) but not paid on the sheet therefore another rollover of approx £27 plus this weekend's takings of about £13. Who's going to be the lucky £40 winner ?

Tuesday, May 11

why is there a link to the 'Osama - the 10 most wanted men' site? Does this mean that if I blog something about 'Asian an#l s#x with he-she midgets' the association will be made and cookies will attach accordingly?
Will be at nets tonight need alot of practice this evening. Feeling the pressure now must improve!
Cliff,

as per request have added Reflexol Blinds to sponsors list and added link on left!

Chaps, we have ELPM in round 2 of the cup; they beat Ashton by 7 wickets ...
why has all this blogging stuff changed - why can't you IT boffins leave alone? If its not broken..... STOP TINKERING!
Anyway - if all is OK weatherwise, we will net on Sunday's wicket tonight - so, bearing in mind that tonight we will have SELECTION and not just 'player search' - get your butts in gear and show you are keen to impress!

Monday, May 10

congrats to Russ on his new record (and the ton!). Good feeling from the shagger sisters and all at the Robin (Thank God I was not on Paul Weller!).
For those in absence, here's a quick summary of 1st XI weekend action:

Saturday:
TSJ 166-6 (Nelly 75), Springhead 71-2 RSP - game very nicely balanced, about 20 overs to go ...

Sunday:
TSJ 185 a/o (Bird 103, Scunners 40) Springhead 89ish a/o (Rob Holt 3-30ish, Bird 2-15ish, Paul 2-2, Garvey 2-not many and Scunners 1-dozen or so). Can someone post exact bowling figures?
Gents

Well made up about yesterday.

In addition to the game I can confirm that I equalled my record in the distance over which it took me to eat the special mix sandwich on the stagger home - bus stop after the Bulls Head. Tremendous.

Here's to next weekend - bring it on!
Gents,

A very good performance yesterday to take us into round 2 of the cup. many congrats to BIG BIRD for his first ever ton! Very long in coming, but well worth the wait! Thought all the bowlers performed very well too.

Selection chaps - I am NOT available next Sunday - had forgotten prior plans. Fine for Saturday's trip to Robbies though.

Friday, May 7

Just blogging in to wish you all the best for tomorrow's fixtures - 1s and 2s! Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday for the cup clash.

Can someone please send me a text with scores tomorrow night? Ta!

Good luck, CDO. They're a rowdy lot but if anyone can control our outspoken team members it's you ... no, hang on, YOU'RE the outspoken team member ;-)

Thursday, May 6

sorry bout that - in a bit of a mood last night!
Chadders is available saturday; I've yet to confirm with Nelly B. - his mobile is constantly turned off and I'm not brave enough to ring his home number!
We've got the personnel to win sat and sun - start focussing now!
Pleasant as always CDO!

Wednesday, May 5

As captain I want to appease the situation, Matt. But as CDO (me) I want to stick your thin ice up your whimpering little white ass - then there will be a SCENE going on!
Both of you are treading on thin ice!
careful parky, he's in a mood.....
I want you to peak with aggression on saturday so I will not say how much I have justified until I toss you the ball....(but its the number of words before these brackets divided by 5).
I'd love to see CDO "break it down", perhaps alongside Dickie P in Chicagos?

Fred and Ginger, anyone?
Your really beginning to test me Mr Coe!
If I were to "break it down" I'm afraid it will be closer to £5.00. Gone on, push me..........
20 Pence! I paid you over the odds on saturday! I need a breakdown of my £2.50 fines for saturday! Don't care if it costs me another 20p!!!
another 20 pence!
I knew this would come up! Yes I was spotted in the horse and jockey on sunday by Steve Moriaty and i was drinking with my right hand!

Fingers are currently bandaged together but should be fine for saturday. Just need to be fielding at 3rd man. Don't fancy testing the hands out just yet!
Matt - hows your hand (not an attempt to get you to show more pain) - I need you steaming in on saturday. Rumour has it that it was your left one and it was seen holding a pint on sunday!
CDO asked me to post a few details from our win over Ashton on Saturday for the benefit of Mike A's next newsletter ... Cliff, can you check the figures and amend if necessary.

TSJ 209-7 (Paul 64, Scunners 31, CDO 29, Birdy 25, Craig and Ducky about 15-20 each)
Ashton 72 a/o (Paul 6-10, Nelly 3-15ish)
Chaps,

Had a message from Nick F - he's NOT available for the Sunday game, unfortunately. Looks like the force is with the Jedi then ...

MATCH BALL SPONSOR - REFLEXOL BLINDS
sorry 'bout that - me machine went bonkers!
Also availability on - Nick Hudson and Steve Smith.
Clive - ARE YOU OUT THERE? Mark Chadwick available Saturday? Sunday? Tel No.?
I've not been to hospital but my friends a nurse she bandaged them up for me and she said that I shouldn't risk playing this weekend.

My left hand is useless and I can't grip so batting would be a problem. But if we're desperate I'll play but I don't want to let anybody down if something happens.

I'll have to field 3rd Man to 3rd Man though and not bat.

Osama

Are they broken?
If Osama doesn't play, we're going to be desperately short of bowling on Saturday ... Matt, if you can force yourself, Sat would be good - otherwise we're going to need Nelly for Sat for the bowling. We also need 5 bowlers minimum for Sunday (unless of course we can pull off a repeat of Saturday).

Could be an interesting selection meeting tonight! I should be there about 7.15.

A slight diversion ... Little Ollie's Website
B@'stard
still showing pain on blog site - 20p
Its not looking good for my availabilty at all this weekend . My fingers are still strapped up and I can't move them!! I'll check tonight Re: availability on the sheets but off the top of my head

DD - Both,You - both, RB Both, PM - Sun, NB ? (one I think Prob Sun) PS Both RP One of, PD None - CP Both, CB Both and Me ? ( I'm probably a no for both as its a long season and i don't want to be out for anymore than i have to sorry !) This blog has took me 10 mns to do with one hand. 2's no idea
Matt C. Can you help re availability for sat/sun - ie what is on the envelope. CDO - sat & Sun; Doc P one only; Dicky one only; Nelly one only; Brooks Bros both; You ?; Dasher both; Skunners both; Parky both; Ducky US; 2nd team for sat (and sun).
Kieran.

Saturday, May 1

Two excellent wins for the boys today - 5 points each. Great stuff lads. Everyone contributed well with bat and ball today, proud of you all!
