Clive!!!!!

Well, now that's sorted out, can we all agree on a new topic of conversation for the next few months?
By the way, I think the 6 which was credited to Mick Jones actulaay belongs to Andy Smith. Not that it makes any overall difference....

2nd XI averages

For all those that are interested I have rechecked the averages and yes there was a small mistake. I had given Nick 2 of Dan's wickets. It make no difference to the overall situation and in fact gives Matt a wider winning margin.

Just for the record Cup matches don't count!!

I have asked for the website to be updated with the new figures.

Apologies

Great fun!

Well that was tremendous fun. We finished at 2pm and I think I'm just starting to thaw out now, 3 hours later.

For the record, TSJ totalled 96 for 11(!) off 22 overs, having at one stage been about 40 off 5! The artificial wicket was one of those very low bouncing ones, so it was ideal for the dibbly dobblies - and indeed anyone who bowled straight! The total was not bad under the circumstances! Good work from all in the perishing cold.

We got off to a dream start as the unlikely opening pair of Cotters - bowling perhaps his most inspired 2 overs of the year - and Dasher had the Brox 3 down in moments. Another soon followed and the home side were up against it at 5-4 off 5 overs. Julian Marcroft played a good knock for Brox, but wickets continued to fall until eventually it came down to 20 to win off 5 overs. Matt Hunt then took 2 in 2 balls before bowling possibly the worst hat-trick ball in history, a beamer that Pete took at full stretch!

Another wicket went down, and Brox were 9 down needing 4 off the last over. Despite the valiant efforts of Dickie P, who must have been the most nervous man in Lancashire, Ashcroft kept his nerve to hit the winning runs and nick the MOM award.

A great afternoon's fun, some very good cricket played - especially considering a) the cold, b) the 3/4 months since we've picked up bat or ball and c) the cold! Plus it looks like we've made upwards of a GRAND.

Fantastic!

Cotters!!!

PLEASE REMEMBER that Christmas is NOT a time for over eating, heavy drinking or arguing about how many wickets you got last season. It is a time to celebrate and give praise to our Lord who sent his son to save all sinners - get down on your knees - NOW!!!!

see you on Boxing Day for some non-alcoholic mulled wine and carol singing around some frozen stumps

Friday, December 22

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to everyone in TSJ land. I'm off to the boozer for some well earned power drinking. See you all on Boxing Day.

'craig' (what on earth is he doing?) - Danny this is the only way you'll get em to give lbws in this league.

Funniest comeback ever?

I have only just discovered this, and it's a belter. To set the scene, Indian batsman Sreenath had copped an absolute mouthful from South Africa's quickie Andre Nel the previous ball (Nel's not renowned for his subtlety). This is Sreenath's response:

Did you sell them all in your Kimono? Duncan was REALLY turned on......

programmes

I've managed to get rid of 20 (somebody actually bought 2!!)
...although I'm sure I sold 25...

Tuesday, December 19

Programme Sales!

How's everyone getting on with the programme sales? Thanks mainly to Duncan and Kieran we're pushing a grand already, so come on, let's make sure we make our club a good amount of money that'll help secure our future.

Remember that without initiatives and this sort of hard work, we wouldn't have a club to play for, so please all do your best!

er, hello?

Dan, are you incapable of following simple instructions? Can you sort this out with Clive - it has no business being aired on this site, it's nothing to do with the rest of us.

In other news ... we're playing cricket this time next week!!!! ;-)

Farce

Wudnt mind too much if it was one wicket!!! But this is 5/6!!!

I'm sorry but its getting to the stage of a farce! I checked the scorebook after every game, there was one mistake wicket wise, and that was matt cotton had 15 with pilky losing one, ALL my wickets where correct as of the score book, I did the averages with about 3 games to go and i had 10 wickets! Where have them 4 gone??? Nick Fletchers total has made a rise from 12 to 15 with no games been played, Either someone cant read/The scorebook has been fiddled with/Looking at last seasons scorebook for mine and nicks average, Either way I do not care. i Shudnt be losing wickets!!!

Monday, December 18

yeah!

and I'm claiming Belly's wicket again too cos he was dropped off me, ya ripper.

Mike - genius!

Imagine the scene...

...in the Aussie dressing room.

WARNE: 699?!?!? 699?!?!?! I'm sure I've got 700!!!! Get me the scorebook!!!!

Chrimbo Pressies?

I still have the following clothing available - if anyone wishes to purchase please blog - they will be sold on a strictly first come first served basis

Training tee shirt (excellent thermal properties!) 1 large, 2 Xtra large

Rain (or Snow) Jackets 2 Xtra Large

Prices are a bargain £11 for the tee shirts and £22 for the jackets.

are you in the private sector?

Matt - we have gone to print on programmes - sold all advertising we could and - as the goose is getting pretty much obese - will be distributing soon - I will get some to you to sell - is all you have to do.

cheers

thanks for clearing that up kc, still plodding along with programme sales but no luck on advertising yet, however a couple of old bosses yet to badger about it!!

What were the advertising prices again?

selection

Selection - I have made a decision (yes, I know, I cannot really make decisions on my own - but I assure you it is not part of my global intention of taking over the world! ha ha ha! - evil laugh). Because of several not so certain availabilities - ie some people cannot tell me whether they are or are not - I have included a squad in the programme - sorry to everyone - but it is easier for me to keep 13/14 people interested than to pick 11 and 3 drop out the day before, leaving me to search for players at Christmas. Matt - you will get a game - if I have to give you my colours myself - so please focus on where/who the programmes are going to be sold to - merry christmas!
PS - Danny I thought I has more runs too - perhaps they came off me pads?

Good god Danny!!!

Well then maybe, just maybe, it might be better having a word with Clive then Danny as against spitting your dummy out in front of everyone here!

Oh and any news on squad selection for twenty20?

Yes!!!

Yes they do!!! I has 11 wickets IN the score book last time i counted

Oh my god ...

Dan,

I will try and point this out simply. The averages are compiled from the scorebooks. If the scorebooks are wrong, whose fault is that other than whoever wrote them??? It's certainly not Clive's fault as he has nothing to work on other than the books. Rather than publicly - and embarrassingly - harping on about it here when there's pretty much bugger all any of us can do about it, why don't you get in touch with Clive and sort this out? Doesn't anyone actually check the scorebook/end of match card before it's signed off?

Several people wrong then!!!

Several people are wrong then!!! Cant blame scorers!

Finally!

Pick Monty - 5 wickets, Aussies destroyed, England closing in ...

Ere,Ere

I 'm with you Paul.....if its in the book well it MUST be ture!!

Wednesday, December 13

OK, enough now.

Dan,

The averages have been produced by Clive from the 2nd team scorebooks - and checked several times by more than 1 person - so I suggest if you have an issue you take it up with whoever did the scoring! You do know the season ended 3 months ago, don't you? ;-)

1 wicket in 3 months?

Wouldn't surprise me dan!!

DOnt get too excited nick

Nick You took 12 wickets last season to my 11.

Dont know where these averages have come from but they are bollox!!! I had 5 wickets after the broadway theres no way i only took one wicket in 3 months!!!

Buy one, get one free!

Ecky! Peng!

Don't think he needs any winding up, Nic!

Tuesday, December 12

Leading wicket taker hey!

well would you believeit hey Danny? toppin the wicket tally!

if you took away the nightmare of Broadway it might have not been to bad a season with the ball.

least said about the bat the better!!!!!!!

Footy

I'm not available on thursday.

team selection

The team will be selected tonight by selection committee
From:
M. Deegan
P. Meehan
A. Parkinson
R. Peacock
P. Skundric
K. Coe
P. McManus
M. Hunt
M. Jones
D. Phillips
N. Butterworth
N. Fletcher
P. Allen
M. Cotton
If anyone is not mentioned here who is available (hands up all those not here!) please make yourself known to me - Russ - you are not playing due to negative correlation between your back and climatic conditions
obviously 14 is 3 too many and anyone not selected would be EXPECTED to turn up as they are now transparently available!
Looks like a bloody good side to me......

Monday, December 11

Ah, missing wickets ...

Clothing Ban

20 programmes, Mike?

FOR SALE...

...Hot Totty 20/20 shirt, sleeveless sweater (great for winter!) plus cap. Size medium, hardly worn, lovely condition, one careful owner, would be an ideal Xmas gift for anyone wanting to play cricket during the festive period. Apply mainscoe@yahoo.co.uk

Tuesday, December 5

That's great!

£1 - now only 19 more to go - keep up the good work!

Programme

I'll buy a programme, will probably nip down in morning watch a bit. out in afternoon.

Thanks

no problems - Matt - thanks for your support
Kit - there will be enough floating about - don't worry!

Keep your F'in hair on

no worries about selling 20 KC will sort that minimum, and having a word with a couple of people tonight in bury about sponsorship, surprisingly its rather hard to drum up much enthusiasm from sheffield steel workers to take out sponsorship but i'll keep trying to wear down their resistance

was merely trying to get a bit more info on the day that was all and raise the issue of kits so that half of us dont end up in proper kit and the rest in blue t-shirts

I'll knit you an F'ing kit

Matt - would rather you be conversing about the number of adverts you have sold for the programme and/or number of programmes you have sold - kit and selection are very small potatoes at this stage!
In other words if you fill the programme with advertising I will knit you a gold lined kit with my very own hands!

Selection & Kits

Any idea on when annoucements are to be made as to the final eleven for the 20/20.

Also any more thought for supplying kits to those who dont have 20/20 gear (if selected). Spoke to Russ the other day and he suspects he only has small kits left knocking about.

Boxing Day

Thought you were talking about my dandruff, Paul!
Hopefully everyone is talking about boxing day and selling programmes at £1 each - don't want anyone pulling faces at me when I ask for £20 - we all should be able to sell 20 at £1 - if you do not know 20 people you need to get out more - also - if you do not sell 20 you will still be paying me £20 - so get out there, talk it up and sell the programme!!!!!
Anyone interested in advertising? Please contact me.
THIS IS OUR FIRST YEAR AT THIS EVENT AND DUNCAN AND I REALLY WANT TO SHOW HOW ORGANISED AND COMMITTED TSJCC ARE - PLEASE DO ALL YOU CAN TO HELP US

Big white flakes ...

I wish it would snow in Australia! Bloody hell ...

Boxing Day - Cricket?

Yep, well up for that. Can imagine the
fun if the pitch is frozen!!

I prefer a nice pint to be honest but over the festive period anything will do!

Seasonal refreshments

Cotters - we are thinking Egg-Nogg and Mulled Wine?

Get In!

I'm guessing that seasonal drinks on the flyer means booze!

Christmas Fun!

music to my lug holes

Good man Mr Hunt, though with no responsibility next season i fancy challenging both you and rob (not so super last season man) Holt. Its gonig to be a three horse race sunshine (if selected of course).

Available

If its not too late i'm also available for the Boxing Day match

Like Nick however i also dont have any glorious technicolour robes.

Oh and just a note to say i've decided to carry on the twice weekly trek from Sheffield and will be carrying on with Totty next season, cant have Mr Holt taking back the 2nds fielding award without a fight!!

Wednesday, November 29

What to wear?

Hi Cdo

i'm okay to play but i don't have no fancy coloured togs.

What do i do?

Boxing Day

Can I wear a coat as well?

Boxing day

For all out there - whether playing or not - Boxing day match starts at Brocs at 11a.m. 20/20 cricket at Christmas - fantastic! 20/20 outfits to be worn.
Programmes will be £1 - everyone is expected to sell 20 each. Please start pre- selling - the programmes will be ready in December (2nd week-ish) but you can all talk about it now!
Advertising in the programme - can everyone please ask at work / everywhere for possible sponsors. I am the contact for advertising.
Dicky P's gloves - we need to find a sponsor - any suggestions? M.Jackson? Len Ganley?

4-a-side

In light of the number of cry offs this week and the relatively small squad of players we are currently running with we are going to have to play 4-a-side this week. The teams will be as follows:

Whites

Scott
Mike J
Paul
Tim

Rags

Dickie
Mike A
Matt A
Saj

Clearly my request for new blood remains very important - please think long and hard about anyone who might be able to play either as a regular or on a ad-hoc basis.

If you have any suggestions to push the numbers up to 10 feel free to give me a ring on 07799 868141. The players not available this week are:

Pearcy
Liam
Cotters
Craig
Clive

Here's to a load of running around on Thurs!!!!

Boxing Day

Just a quick reminder to all those who said yes to playing on Boxing Day - you are:
Martin Deegan
Paul Meehan
Ashley Parkinson
Richard Peacock
Phil McManus
Duncan Phillips
Kieran Coe
Neil Butterworth
Mick Jones
Nick Fletcher
Pete Allen
Matt Cotton
Anyone else who is interested - please contact me as a squad is better at this stage than a team.
I have a meeting tonight with Brocs and would like to think that all those who said yes actually meant it and will be donning whites on the 26th - could be quite a good date / focus for fundraising also - I will keep you all posted.....

Race night thanks

On behalf of us all, can I just say a big thanks to all those who were involved in the organisation of the race night. It was a good event and hopefully will have made us plenty of money! Elton was a good venue and hopefully all had a good time - particularly the 7 or 8 of us left at the end!

On a personal note I'd like to say thanks to Kieran for leading the compering on the night, as I'm not sure it was officially said at Elton. Plus Dickie P, Smiffy, Clive and everyone else who had a hand in setting it up. And very well done Hels for those fantastic horses, dice, track ... plus good effort from all the race comperes, in particular Scoop who was FANTASTIC!

Congrats to all the award winners (Cotters! Shunter! Ashley! Me! Ashley! Kath B! Ashley! Ashley! Dickie P! Matt Hunt! and Ashley!).

NMCL Forum

If you can look beyond some of the silliness, the new(ish) NMCL Forum is well worht a look. There's a lot of good stuff about historical NMCL matches, personal achievements, thoughts on the rules, fixture discussion, suggestions for getting players and clubs together and plenty more. There's 3 Totty lads signed up to date, more would be very welcome!

Race Night

7.30pm is the start time for all you race goers - please bring lots of cash to bet, etc - we will also be trying a few beers.....

Map/Directions for Race Night

The directions are reasonably straightforward, you need to proceed down Walshaw Road, which is the road which leads up from down near B&Q/Dusty Miller all the way up to Walshaw/Lowercroft. It's the road where the Bolholt Hotel can be found!

To access the ground, you need to do it through the Walshaw Park housing estate. Turn onto Cotswold Crescent off Walshaw Road and follow the road as it bears round to the left. Take the first left onto Moreton Drive and then after a few hundred yards there's a sign for Elton CC and an access road on the right (Leigh Lane).

Saturday, November 11

Race Night

Arrangements for Race Night going well. However, need to rally round and get a few more people there and also I HAVE 4 HORSES STILL TO SELL. If I don't sell them it just cocks up the running of the event. Lets see what you can do and make it a great success.

Daa Da Da Daaaaaa

You thought you were just going to a car boot sale, but tonight Paul Meehan, THIS IS YER LOIFE!!!! I almost expected Eamon Andrews (or Michael Aspel for our youngers readers) to be popping out of the screen after reading this. Paul, you must have been quite a cricketer at one time!!!! You can always give me a kick tonight (after nicking my parking space of course). Perhaps we could incorporate a 'blast from the past' into future newsletters if you could get the archive to me in some form? Cheers mate.

PS. What was the weather like on Saturday 12th August 1998????

Historical averages part 1

John Barrow sent through the full league averages for 1974-2006 so I thought I'd do some digging and see where TSJers have come over the years. It reminded me that Ashy's won the batting before and Mozzer has snaffled the bowling! I'll try and post all occasions where TSJers have made the final lists at a later date.

There are a few curiosities - our famed overseas trio of Seego, Eddie Smith and Glen Greenidge hardly make any appearances at all, there are some late 70s flashes from Nick Hud and Frankie Brock, and in the 90s we ruled, with Carl Barrett, myself, Mozzer and Ashley regularly up there!

First I decided that I might try and compile my own career record, just for the hell of it and to see exactly how I might stack up. Always wanted to do this!

In the years 1992-2006 I have played 14 seasons out of 15 (about 10 full ones, the others varying degrees due to other commitments eg university, work, home life). 1997 I missed almost entirely as I was living overseas.

BATTING

227 inns 23 no 6806 runs 33.36 ave 9 league tons HS given as 140 (think it's actually 145 but won't quibble, even though it was against Springhead ;-)).

I'm quite pleased with that actually, given the difficult wickets we encounter sometimes, plus the ludicrous number of times you can throw your wicket away.

Best seasons:

1995 - 680 runs at 61.82 from just 12 innings
1999 - 716 runs at 42.12
1996 - 535 runs at 41.15
2003 - 474 runs at 39.5 (almost all in 2nd half of season!)

Have got 500+ runs 7 times and 450+ another 4. So not too many "lean" years, though this was one of them.

2nd in averages twice, third once, other top 10 three times

BOWLING

Very pleased with this:

3224 overs (jesus!) 860 maidens 8235 runs (they all hurt) 658 wickets at 12.52

BB 9-8 v Catholics

runs per over: 2.55; not bad over 14 years considering the enormous tap some people have offered ;-)

Best years in terms of wickets taken:

1996 - 17 games, 70 wickets at 9.39 (2nd)
1998 - 20 games, 69 wickets at 10.3 (2nd)
1999 - 18 games, 75 wickets at 10.99 (2nd)
1994 - 19 games, 70 wickets at 12.74 (4th)

Other good averages:

1995 - 12 games, 35 wickets at 10.83 (2nd)
2004 - 15 games, 48 wickets at 10.04 (6th!!!)
2003 - 14 games, 38 wickets at 11.63 (3rd)
2005 - 17 games, 42 wickets at 11.83 (6th)

Averaged under 11 5 times, under 12 twice more.
2nd in averages 4 times, 3rd once, 4th once, 5th once, 6th 3 times, 8th once. Only outside top 10 twice, once in 1993 when I was just developing (40 wickets at 15.1) and 2000 (38 wickets at 19.34, no clue what happened there!).

In 1994 I bowled 354.3 overs in 19 games. God was I flogged! 1996 292.5 overs, 1998 312.4, 1999 330.3

I won the players player awards in 1995, 1998 and 1999, though I maintain I should have got it in 96 too ;-)

AAAH

I thought you were going mad!!!

Smug Richard

Not really Cotters - Richard was the only one to welch out of a sailing trip this weekend - he was merely letting us know what a good decision that was (force 9 Irish Sea is not like putting a dinghy onto Hollingworth lake!)

Eh!

Have I missed something?

jib / jibber

a jib is a triangular sail set in front of a mast. To jib (verb) is to stop and refuse to go on.
The former we shall be utilising this weekend, the latter can stew in his own....

Thursday, October 5

Historical averages!

I asked John Barrow for any old NMCL averages that he had and have received the 1st division averages dating back to 1974!

I will extract the TSJ entries and post them up sometime in the next few days - they're fascinating to track! The 90s are especially good as you might imagine. It's also quite good to look at what names continually crop up near the top of the batting and bowling. We can probably derive some relatively accurate "career aves" in some cases! Plus there are quite a few cases where Cliff's in the top 3 keeping, which is also good to note.

Monday, October 2

Tickets Please!

Prices are - £5 for Race night (also £5 for a horse);£13 for league presentation - £15 if we do not get monies in by certain date. Availability and cash to me / Clive.

Cheers Scott my ankle is a tad sore this morning as well! Well done to the rag tags last night another good victory. If my calculations are correct its 2-2 in the series now.

Cotters

Are you out there - I want you at the league dinner and the race night - are you available?

5-a-side quote of the season, so far...

After a 50:50 challenge between myself and Cotters, the bald one was heard to shout (whilst lying on the floor in some pain)

'I have weak ankles"

Cotters, if it makes you feel any better I can hardly walk this morning!!

Great game last night.

Hear, hear

Couldn't believe the swarms of people and for a small outlay in terms of time and effort we've raked in about 700 quid for the club. Run one of these events every 2-3 months we make *THOUSANDS* for the club in a year.

What we do need to make sure is that we share the workload round. For example, we'll not be selling next time (probably) so I can help out with BBQ or on the gate etc. We need to make sure every club member gets involved because at the end of the day it is everyone at the club who benefits from this increased revenue. It only needs a few hours of your time.

great effort

A big thanks to those who helped out at the Car Boot Sale - esp Dasher, Pete, Clive, Richard, Rachel, Kaye, Mrs CDO and the car-booters - Russ, Paul, Mike, Jonesy. Shame on the rest of you - raised big bucks for club - over 45 cars....

Best wind up of the season goes to.....

Kieran - thanks for your kind words re team of the year - I agree. (see Catholic club site).
Next year we will be dressed as either Cowboys, Glam-Rock, American Football, City Gents, or any suggestion from the floor - we can't unfortunately go as Cricketers - that would be too far-fetched!

Wednesday, September 20

5-a-side

A few things...

Only change from last weeks teams is Dickie P in for Mike Ainscoe.

I understand that the M66 might be closed from 9pm this Thursday between J2 (Heap Bridge) to J1 (Ramsbottom).

Finally, as it appears no one is in the hall before us please feel free to turn up early for an extended warm up or just to get the chatting out of the way before 9.05pm!!

See you all tomorrow.

White Supremacy

No, not the Klan, but last night's football. One of the closest and best matched games in a long, long time. We, the Whites, shaded it by about 3 or 4 in the end, but a very good game indeed. Some brilliant goals from both sides, particularly two volleys from Ash and Pearcey, and a couple of astonishing finishes from Liam for the RagTags.

Bring on next week!

No sign of the Brother Hud

Alas, Brother Hud (TM Brother Scoop Doggy) never showed ...

On the pilgrimage were Brother Coe, Brother Doc, Brother Big Bird, Brother Teflon, Brother Allen, Brother Bluebell, Brother Scoop Doggy, Brother Neil and Sister Yvonne. Plus a few tortured souls in Scunners, Young Danny and Old Rowdy, the latter two of whom got a good hammering at pool for their trouble.

plea for monks

could anyone post me any photos from the monk's pilgrimage (for the newsletter obviously) to mainscoe@yahoo.co.uk

Thanks very much. I'm trying to get a newsletter out pretty soon but that would be the icing on the cake if we can get some of you guys in costume - did Nick hud wear make up (again)?

2 more than Ash

40 not out actually, Paul

Monday, September 11

Indeed

Think I ended with 2-26 ish off 5 but first 3 overs went for 22. Lloydy was hammering everything and the lad at the other end was smacking Ash all over the shop too. As soon as they went, Scunners got Jimmy and Ralphy for ducks and it was all over bar the shouting!

Was delighted to get the last wicket - the final batsman was only about 12 and I got some stick for "stepping it up" against him ;-)

Sat

Got a bit of tap them eh paul!!

Sounds like another good win.

Scores and monks

Cotters,

WLM 88 a/o (after being 47-0 off 6), Scunners bowled a treat, Nelly pegged them back and Ash and I finished them off. We got 91-1 off 11, with Ash throwing his wicket away for 38. CDO ended about 35 not out, Scunners about 15 not out. Won with 57 overs to spare.

Night out was great, the highlight for me was Pete Allen walking into one of the pubs (Lamb?) in full monk outfit, hood down, you could just about make out the glasses, and instantly one bloke shouted "All right, Pete?" as though he came in like that every week ;-)

oh my (bald) head hurts...

Runners Up!

Excellent work with the runners up spot, well deserved. What were the scores and Sat?

Gutted I missed the doo, was it a good night?

2nd place - great end!

A fantastic way to end the season. A thumping win, a loss for Dalians to give us our deserved 2nd place finish and a good night out with the Order of St John!

Congrats to Ashy for getting his innings in (and a thumping one at that). So that's at least two lots of silverware for the club!

Congrats to ALL on a very good season and our best finish since 1999. Loads of highlights, loads of great performances, both team and individual. No doubt there will be some season retrospectives on here soon!

Friday, September 8

Squawk!

Think there's a parrot on the Catholic site - might sue him for plagiarism...or just baptise him if he's out on Saturday night...

whites?

Obviously no blogs - so whites won easily??? Needs me shouting at Dicky P - "Where are you going?" and Nicky Hud in his rain jacket!!!

Anyway - REALLY need to finish the season on a win tomorrow - I think we owe it to Dash (and ourselves) - some highs, some lows but a bloody big step forward from last year (oh yes and we beat Rochdalians twice by 8 wickets).

Lest Ye Forget

Two things to prepare for: Monks: Last Match of season - we need a good turn out and just a wig and a cross will NOT do - must be a habit minimum! It is easy to get an outfit (even I can!) - this is without doubt the best night of the year - ask Bobby Loomba!
Secondly - Car Boot - 24th September - you will all know someone who wants to come and pay for their car boot contents to be sold on Crompton Meadows - please be ambassadors for the Club and ask your neighbours / friends / family - I have leaflets for info or just print off my information blog.
Come on lads - lets have a good finish to the season - on and off the field!!!

Friday, August 25

Superman to the rescue

Shame about the Gyno, but luckily Rob Holt has pounced on the oppurtunity to get a game. Which, thank the lord, means i won't have to open the bowling with Fletch. Phew!

TSJ sets up fake sky-diving club ...

Cliff tries it out first ...

Fake Sky Diving

No you've got this high powered fan and it lifts you about 10 foot off the ground. Something like that! I'm not too sure myself but you've got to try these things!

Cotters

bailing out....just when we needed you most....they are not violins playing - they are violin cases and there's a bullet with your name on it....
I have never, in 25 years of playing (competitive) sport heard such a feeble excuse as fake sky diving....what the...?
Anyway - good luck Cotters - can you make the car boot sale? - don't give me an excuse - I have no migraine tablets left

What!?

What in the name of Osama is "fake sky diving"?

Is that where you stand about saying things like:

"Boy, I wish you could experience THAT updraft"
"Tell you what, that time my fake parachute nearly failed, whew that was a close one"
"If I was 20,000 feet up, the view would be GREAT!"

Fake skydivers in action

Hols

I wish Paul!

No I've got a wedding this weekend, next weekend I'm going to Milton Keynes to do fake sky diving and the weekend after it's my brothers partner's leaving doo and were having an all dayer in Manchester.

Really gutted that I can't play at for the rest of the season but in a way i'm sort of glad to have got this one out of the way. Personally i've under achieved I know I can perform better but for some strange reason its not happened for me! Oh well (less of the violins cotters!!!!)

Good luck for the weekend keep the pressure on those catholic boys!

emigrating?

You going away, Cotters?!

Dogs

Just to confirm I can't make it to the dogs on Friday.

Also for selection I am not available for the rest of the season. Sorry Boys!

And... I can't make it to the Monks doo as well! I'm gutted!

hmmm!

I'm 1 - Helen's folks won't be with us until at least 8pm. 6pm seems very early - what about all us unlucky folks who don't get home until later than that?

dogs

Paul - I'll ask Dasher tonight as it is he who has been dropped on for organising - are you 2 or 1? I think numbers are around the minibus mark (10ish) - so will probably be that we all meet at the Robert Peel on Friday around 6pm - but I am not 100% on any of the details - watch this space tomorrow......

Dogs part 2

So ... does anyone know what's happening re transport and times for Friday night? At the meeting last week we appeared to agree we'd be using the Metro, then on Saturday a few folks were talking about minibuses etc.

Anyone got any idea what's happening?

winter's coming....

A note to all players - games now start at 1.30pm - so obviously make arrangements to arrive 1/2 an hour earlier than you normally would for both home and away (12.30 home, 12.00 away). Spread the word.

Friday, August 18

Good Luck

Good Luck for Tomorrow Team 1.

Hopefully we'll get a game in. Off home to power drink!

B&B

Cracking Paul - bet it gets personal now........

Dan and Jamie, like, uh huhhh huhh hurrrr

Thursday, August 17

Scunners goes to the dogs...

Scunners is 30 soon and we are celebrating by going to the Dogs, followed by a Ruby in Rusholme and then....who knows. Date is Friday 25th August - no other arrangements have been made until we know numbers - probably metro to Piccadilly then taxi to Dogs, etc. All interested parties should notify me / Dasher on Saturday.

It's all a bit Marti Pellow ...

You better watch out ...

Cotters, you're (sorry, do I mean "your" ;-)) treading on thin ice. Young Dan "is 67 greater or less than 64" of Mensa fame is ready to "certificate" your "responce". Be afraid! Be very afraid!

Reading Group

I would have thought Where's Wally would be more on there level!!

Should be a cracking read

Now I imagine that cricketing autobiographies won't come much better (or indeed bigger) than this:

Weighing in at a whopping 832 pages, this is a monster! I've read several of Waugh's books before and unlike the majority who have ghostwriters to tell their tales, Waugh actually writes everything himself; he's honest, brutally so at times, and very opinionated. Can't wait to get this.

Have had a good few weeks on the reading front, recently read ex-Glamorgan man Steve James' "Third Man to Fatty's Leg" which is another non-ghosted book, Graham Thorpe's "Rising from the Ashes", which focused more on his (disturbing) marital issues than cricket at times, and the latest Andy McNab - "Aggressor", another cracking read. Have also uncovered a top new author in Stel Pavlou - just finished "Gene" and am currently about halfway through his debut offering "Decipher", which has pretty much everything you can ask for in an action book - the US military, Antarctica, impending destruction of Earth by solar-flare induced natural disasters, the pyramids, ancient warriors, the discovery of Atlantis, sex, drugs, (not much rock'n'roll) and, alas, no cricket whatsoever.

Tune over to the Catholics' blog where they'll be doing their own book reviews shortly; it's an Enid Blyton special!

Missing in action!

Where is everyone? We have about 20 registered posters here but about 10 haven't posted in a long time - if anyone's lost their passwords, drop us an email ...

Wednesday, August 16

Bat??

Nowt wrong with my bat paul its just that I don't get chance to use it!

Anyway looks as if I've got a saturday off this weekend! Pity I'm not available next weekend, got a wedding to go to.

remember, remember ...

If I were you, Cotters, I'd be saving that bat for the bonfire ;-)

It'll be interesting to see what we're all flogging. Plenty of kids stuff, judging by last night's meeting; CDO also expressed an interest in selling his enormous collection of dubious videos (and Status Quo albums) while Dickie P* will be putting some of his legendary hand creams up for grabs! Cliff, meanwhile, will be flogging a dead horse.

Car Boot

I think Sarah's interested in a Pitch. I'll ask her tonight and let you know.

Merchandise - 2nd consignment

I am collecting the latest order of clothing tomorrow, and will be in possession of them at the weekend to distribute.

If you ordered anything please bring your cash (Jackets £22, cricket shirts £16, training tops and shorts £11).

Good 5 points

Well earned 5 points on Saturday, just what this Dr ordered! Thought Scunners and Flash bowled particularly well, we probably should have kept failsworth under 100 but not a problem.

Thought the support I got from Smithy was invaluable at the end, and well batted again Nick!

Top fielding from Osama too, brilliant!

The other two contenders also picked up 5 points, there are some big weekends coming up now. If there is rain about this week, as is forecast, I fancy Catholics' chances of playing at ELPM better than ours at Fothergills!

Thursday, August 10

You try to help and.....

I was just trying to save you a phone call........

Dr Singh DOES know that he is playing and will make his own way there!

I showed him the ground on google earth!

What are you trying to say about my batting Smiffffffffy?

Order?

As you can see Nick, i am not captain therefore the order will be what ever M Ainscoe says it is. I very much doubt you will be batting ahead of messers Peacock and Parkinson, but its a nice thought!!!

Did you mean DOES Dr Singh know he is playing? Or are you just using this site for some tourrettes style outbursts of random statements?

Does anybody want to buy some ski's?

Wednesday, August 9

Order!

No not drink related.... is this the batting order then Smifffffffffffy?

By the way Dr Singh knows he is playing!

Thieving Bar Stewards

Unfortunately boys, we are playing away this weekend and will have to meet somewhere. Incase you don't know what Nick is on about (we all rarely do!), you now have to pay to park behind the Robin. A full parking refund is given if you spend over a fiver at the bar. Good job Rowdy doesn't drive anymore! Not a good idea for those drink drivers amongst us - we will now have to buy at least 2 pints.

Anyway meet at the Robin at 12.30pm unless we come up with somewhere better. We can always leave our cars at Crompton Meadows.

12th Man - Possibly Scorer A (can't get back in the side) Smith

Robin Hood, just steeling from beer drinkers these days!

What is the club/peoples position on the Robin Hood parking situation? Are we drinking else where or staying put and where to meet for away games?

If we all know whats going on then we can still all meet up after games.
I'd rather stay at the Robin and work round the parking fee.
What does everyone else think?

selection - 1st Team

1st Team for Saturday 12th August (1st day of Grouse shooting season = the glorious 12th!). Home -v- Failsworth Macedonia - meet at ground 1pm(or use new park and ride scheme run by the Robin Hood - free ride;£12 for parking)

Tuesday, August 8

Like a young salmon ...

Is this one of the most ridiculous celebrations you've ever seen?

It's all over, Pakistan have been bowled out for 155, with Monty taking 3-39 and Mahmood 4-20odd. Top effort and another series win!

Ah yes ....

Welcome home, CDO!

I heartily agree about Jones, and with Payton and Ainscoe stepping up their run gathering, will it be curtains for the 2nds legendary opener? ;-)

Might be curtains for me too, with Nick's 50 and you and Digger back on Sat. Think I'll plonk down nicely at number 4 or 5 thanks very much!

welsh bloke

times like this you've got to feel for Jones - will he be cheering every catch / stumping / 50 runs by Read?

3 Lions

I see Sajid and Monty are turning the heat up for England. Pakistan 84-5 at lunch with the last recognised pair at the crease - Inzy and Younis Khan.

Come ON!

Monday, August 7

Back To Winning Ways

At last a good team performance, well bowled
Paul & Neil. Well batted Garvey, great to see
Nick batting so well. Some more great catches,
good fielding and well skippered Paul.

Luck - Seems like Elton Vale could'nt fulfill the fixture
at weekend but managed to pull a rabbit out of the hat
and beat us last week.

Looking back on Sat has anyone seen any stranger
appealing and behaviour from a team. It seems to me
that both teams had decisions that maybe did'nt go
there way but to take it to the extremes that they did was
amazing. Funniest thing was when there team finished
appealing and the umpire gave a not out decision 1 of there
players started appealing again.

Sunday, August 6

Top effort!

Another mauling for Dalians, that's twice now we've beaten them by 8 wickets! Thought we bowled really well as a unit, was chuffed with my own performance with the ball, and was very well backed up by the others.

Batting, what a great effort. Pete and Nick nullified the new ball in a steady start and Nick and Ash really got us going, then Nelly and Ash took us to the brink of victory with some spectacular strokeplay. Another 80 odd not out for Flash, and a consumate win.

Big plaudits to Matt Hunt who fielded fantastically well and also some wonderful catches from Clive, Dickie P and Ashley.

Thursday, August 3

Going straight there

Chaps,

I'll be going straight there on Sat. That way I can arrive bright and early so I can toss up with a team not even playing - like the last time! In fact I'm hoping we can sneak a few overs in before Dalians arrive to give us the early advantage.

One change for Sat. Young Jedi is unavailable so we have sought mere mortal replacements! Cliff will probably blog the change if he can be bothered in his post-holiday stupor ;-)

Wednesday, August 2

What the....

What happen Doc......against EVCC?

Monday, July 31

Everything's Eye-OK!

I imagine we're all pretty sickened by the behaviour we were subjected to at the weekend, which has cost us 4 points. In any case, we must put it behind us and move forward on Saturday to try for the double over Dalians! Well done Ash for another fantastic batting performance.

My head has started to de-swell though my vision was pretty poor yesterday; don't think anything's fractured, but it was a close call. Another inch and a half inwards and I'd have maybe lost an eye. Yikes! Nice shiner now! Anyway, I will be fine to play (and captain!) on Saturday!

Wednesday, July 26

what to do?

So Mr Ainscoe what it to be, medium pace filth or out the ground spin.

Skipper, wicket keeper and opening bat..... blimey busy day for you!

Take your chances

Good luck Team 2. I'm sure you'll have a simple score to chase with Mozzer back in the side - but beware those dropped catches. Any go down off Ste's bowling and blood could be spilled.

Go on Mike A. Show me how its done

WARNING!!!!

After the Lord Mayor's Show......
Saturday was brilliant but could act like a cup final and give us an almighty hangover....
I know I'm a miserable sod, but this is the test of a good side - consistancy.
Bring home the Danish, Boys!!!
COME ON!!!!!

Tuesday, July 18

Cotters...

If you need someone to hold him down, I'm your man.

On another matter, well done team 1.

Remember the battle is won but the war is not.

Monday, July 17

Mozzer!

I wouldn't come to nets if I was you daniel!!!

Finally got to the bottom of it!!! - ENJOY

Yes Cotters and ....

The bloke who smashed those runs was also the one who was dropped on 0 (sorry Craig and Ash!) ;-) I should indicate that you bowled bloody well too Cotters.

Isn't hindsight great? Yet again another example (for me) of going out, thinking I need to smash anything remotely off straight and giving it away when playing myself in would have no doubt brought dividends (like Ash!). There's always next week, there's always next week ... (repeat to fade).

Saturday

It was an absolute pleasure to be in the side on saturday. It was probably the best game of cricket i have ever been involved in.

Thanks paul for mentioning the 27 off my last over!! I do have to point out that the guy who got the runs was dropped on my first ball of that infamous over (sorry craig!!!)

Congrates to Ash for what was probably the best inning i've seen at tsjcc. But i reckon my 0 not out off 1 delivery won the game!!!!

Classic!

It sounds a classic, I wish I could have been there to watch it. Well done Flash.... do you think the prematch banter helped ?
Anyway, lets see it through to the end and bring home the silverware, as not to do so after the effort from this match and the season so far would be criminal.

Come on Team Two lets us show a bit of back bone and emulate Team One and put in some fighting performances.

Come Onnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!

Smiffffffffffy I'm okay to play!

AMAZING

After reading that, I lost the power to cut and paste. Fortunately, it all came back and I'll post this in the newsletter. Ashley, never again will I take the p**s out of your punctuation - surely you were using Skunners' bat????

Synopsis

Quick match stats.

Catholic Club 243-7 (45 overs)
TSJ 244-9 (42.1) Ashley 140 not out.

After 10 overs RCC were on 16, after 17 they were on 45, after 25 about 150! Syab smashed what must have been about 85 in 7 overs. Cotters went for 27 in his last over, having bowled really well to that point. Scunners picked up 4 wickets and bowled pretty well. Ash also tight early on, and plenty of pace generated! We were about 60-4 at one point before Ashley cut loose. He was dropped early on and also right at the death!!! Mind you, one of their guys got 90 not out and he was dropped on 0!

Craig, Dasher and Clive all gave good support late on, and Cotters survived his 1 delivery!

I was quite pleased with my own figures of 0-20 off about 11, desperately wanted to come back on later!

....????

can someone fill us in with the weekend's events??? I'll try and get a newsletter to KC before he goes on hols and get the weekend's results in - and as Ashley seems to have done heroic deeds, we can forgive his lack of correct use of capital letters in his last post can't we?

not bad eh

thanks for the praise lads, had to do something since
i dropped a couple of catches. paul's right we need
to maintain this great effort and push forward i did
have some luck and you don't know when that will
change.

oh by the way - paul good bowling with no reward,
scunners well bowled at a difficult time and well batted
at the end craig.

Bring them all on ...

We need to focus, focus, focus over the next few games and ensure we do not slip up!

Ashley - one of the best innings I've ever seen from a TSJer. Fantastic strokeplay, a touch of luck and sheer bloody mindedness.

selection / availability

Can everyone please give the captains your availability over the next few weeks as holidays are upon us.

Best Innings

Wow....
Ash to have the keys to Tottington?
Good luck for next 3 games boys.

RIP Dusty Dawson

I have been asked by Nick Hudson to convey the sad news of Dusty's passing last Friday. Dusty was wicketkeeper for the John's during the 1980's, and many of the current players will have fond memories of Dusty.

Booyakasha

Ah, you can always rely on the DOPE when you need clarification. Thanks, Smiffy ;-)

I Knows it..

I can confirm, from my trusty Dictionary Of Pleasure and Ecstasy (DOPE) that the correct spelling is Ganja: pr Gaan -jah. I would also like to place an order for one of those hoodies.

Movin' and groovin'

I'm getting bored with the banter from RCC, so why not widen the net to encompass our friends and faithful reader from East Lancs. Do you know that Robbo and Gavin are in a band?

The mighty Coalition

Should provide a few ribs for our upcoming encounter ...

just wondered

if it might be 'ganja' rather than 'ganga'. Tried to look it up, but it wasn't in the Oxford Primary School Dictionary. Unless of course, you might be talking about 'gangsta'?? Again, not in the dictionary, although I have a few'gangstas' in my class.

Missed a trick!

Surely that should read ...

"HOT TOTTY'S GANGA DEN"

Hoodies

Russ,

Any chance we can get some hoodies with the club badge on the front so we could sell them to the local dope smokers/scallies who use the pavillion as a youth club/drugs den.

Maybe put something on the back like "HOT JOHNNY'S GANGA DEN"

Make Like Ollie

No not Doc's little one but Oliver Cromwell!
Take his example and crush the Catholics!!!!! (obviously not all out slaughter of the Irish)

Okay, don't get carried away, we don't want war crimes panel at NMCL meetings.

Good luck lads and give it your best and give yourself an edge in the title chase!!

RCC

Check out the Catholics - I think Paul's whipping em up into such a giddy frenzy that we'll hopefully see a premature climax to their Championship aspirations, come Saturday.

Hoody

thought you'd know - Fletch!
Talking of Hoodies (yes I can do plurals) - Monks are the original hoody creator - so get your hooded habits at the ready!

Caps

With all this new gear knockin' about is there any chance of some navy blue caps?

both of mine are knackard!

CDO- Its hoody

ASBO

I want a TSJCC Hoody - or is it Hoodie, Mike?

And XL shorts.

Cheers

Dan

PS Can we not get tracksuits???

soz sir!!!!!

never really took an interest in certain subjects at
school - my English teacher was dull & boring!! - much
preferred playing cricket.

Danny/Paul how do I get on to RCCC site to post
a blog?

Come September ....

... here's a pic of the first encounter between Mike and Flash at footy next year ...

hate to mention it, but...

Ashley, shouldn't it be you're (using the apostrophe for the contraction of 'you are') as opposed to 'your'????

good game good game

Fantastic effort on sat boys, great result.
well batted cdo and well bowled neil.

Paul - your always needed - bowled 22 overs
on sat - knee shot to bits!!

see even marks ton couldn't stop the mulkeen boys?

Doc P

Couple not available saturday - so you might just sneak a game - its only Rochdale Catholic Club anyway.........

Congrats, boys!

You really don't need me any more do you? Every time I am unavailable you get 5 points! Fantastic stuff.

Guess you'll not need me for next weekend then?

Best make it large then!

Russ

I will go with your superior knowledge of such matters and have an XXL in both pls.

Thanks.

Merchandise

Russ,

Could you put me down for an XL Rain Jacket and also Phil McManus would like the same

Cheers

Smiffffy

surely you're just pretending to be a medium.....

Get your kit on!

Training top (L) for me please, Birdy!

Cotters, we've had a couple of orders for life-size replicas, but I had to turn them down as we're fresh out of the also requested voodoo pins!

Slightly Snug?

I have a medium sized rain jacket. Trust me, there is no snugness about it! You lot are just trying to make yourselves feel better!

Merchandise

So No Orders for the Lifesize Cotters then??

Message for Scot

In view of the slightly snug fit of the rain jackets you may be better with XXL. Myself , Nick Fletch and Nick Hud had XXL and they fit fine. Let me know.

Merchandise

Bird

An XL jacket and training top pls.

Thanks.

Merchandise prices etc

Prices for the goods as displayed below:

Rain Jacket £22

Shorts £11

Training shirt £11

I also have some very smart new cricket shirts (as modelled by Andy Smith and Danny Moriarty) which are available for a very reasonable £16.

I will be at the match on Saturday in a spectating capacity, and if anyone wishes to order I will add you to the list.

Nick I am aware of your order and have put them on the list. Unfortunately I can only reorder once I have sufficient interest to enable me to obtain the same levels of discount as last time. I need to be ordering at least 10 garments.

Lovely merchandise

Chaps,

Here's the new range of Saints-wear. Bird will post prices.

Shortly arriving at the online shop will be the Jamie Dell automatic ground leveller, a DIY foot-puncture repair kit and the newly patented Mulkeen Jnr hoick to leg swingometer. Rumours of a life size inflatable Osama Bin Lardy are as yet unfounded, though we do also hope to soon receive the Parkinson Senior Dyson and some more handcream for Dickie P.

RE:Merchandice

Russ,

Have you got the old man down for XL jacket and will you put Lisa down for a Medium jacket as well please.

And a XL training top (navy and white number?) for me please.
Ta

Merchandise idea ...

Does anyone have any photos of the new merchandise. I didn't see the stuff originally as I couldn't make the AGM, hence didn't make an order. If we get some pics online we may even tempt some of our casual readers into displaying their allegiance to the mighty Saints (I'm looking at you Mr David "these sites are compulsory reading" Brown) ;-)

Bird/CDO - pics to me for upload if you have any?

Russ is probably starting another list for TSJCC badged merchandise after the popular response(esp the coats)get your orders in now!

Nick Hud might have a thing or two to say ...

Chaps,

Forget the cricket stuff for a second and let's turn our collective attention to August and the resumption of 5 a side. I think I may have spotted a rather useful addition for the Superwhites! Scoop - get onto it!

Nick'd put him into Row Z

Some of the footowrk is amazing. A bit reminiscent of Mr Ainscoe at his best. Bet Flash'd put him into Row Z!

Monday, July 3

Availability

Another good 5 points at the weekend boys! What happened to team 2??

Anyway I'm available on Saturday if required.

selection

no probs smiffffy - see you there - "Oh yes, I'm the GREAT pretender....." - could be a song there somewhere?

late, late ...

Mike Ainscoe is going to be late for selection - 7.30ish. As we have a meeting afterwards and i have lots of stuff to do, i to will not be getting to selection till 7.30ish either. Is this OK team 1 skip and team 1 pretend skip?

availability for Saturday

Ash - you OK?

Committee Meeting

Tuesday 8.30pm down at Ground after selection - Committee meeting - all members of committee please make the effort to attend.

Friday, June 30

o-argh!

Typical farmer....

Thursday, June 29

who cares!

what rccc are saying about us. if we keep trying our best
and keep playing as a team we will be ok this season.

as for the knee - no bone damage, feels ok will be
running on it by the weekend and ok for cricket
the week after.

good luck on sat boys, don't let the early start catch
us out.

What the Catholics Say!

Well team one, it seems that the boys from Rochdale (Pope loving ones) don't see you as a threat to the NMCL Div1 title. I hope this opinion of theirs can give you even more of an incentive to beat Ashton this Saturday and maintain your place at the top of the pile!!!

Come on boys show us what you're made of!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Early finish? You can always pop over to Broadway and watch Team 2!

Whats Football?

No change to the Team 2 fixture, so can we meet at the Robin Hood at 12.30pm please

Andy Smith
Mike Ainscoe
Mike Jones
Phil Yates
Stuart Hunter
Nick Fletcher
Ben Hope
Phil McManus
Matt Hunt
Daniel Moriarty
Rob (Superman is Back) Holt

Wednesday, June 28

selection

It has been confirmed that we can start at Ashton Ladysmith CC at 10.00am - please either be at the Robin Hood car park 8.30am-8.45am or at the ground directly latest 9.30am. Team is:
M. Deegan
K. Coe
P. Meehan
C. Brooks
C. Parkinson
S. Smith
P. Skundric
N. Hudson
P. Allen
N. Butterworth
S. Pilkington
Footnote: Please note this has been arranged so that you can watch the football - can I suggest that we all decide upon a venue to watch the game together?
Footnote #2: Please note also that we are top of the league - a position that I for one want to retain longer than one week - CRICKET MUST BE A PRIORITY ON SATURDAY

Um yeah ...

Indeedy. Have dropped hat-trick chance catches for both Nick and Flash BUT DEFINITELY NO-ONE ELSE! In my defence, I have held hat-trick catches at other times including in one very big game for English Universities, so there is some redemption ;-)

Tuesday, June 27

trend?

Paul - how many catches have you dropped when tsj
bowlers have been on a hatrick?

A Near Miss

I once nearly claimed a hatrick!! At Rochdalians it was, but someone put the third guy down at slip. Eh Paul!!! That could have been my only major contribution to team one.
Nevermind :-(

3 of a kind

Particularly pleased to see that the NMCL website has no mention either of my 6 wicket haul or the hat-trick. I blame Big Bird! I've been trying 20 years for that - succeeded at something like the 25th attempt ;-)

Flash, if you listen to Birdy, Scunners doesn't work at all. Though if you ask him, he'd probably say he works "at least 5 hours in that shift" rather than the 3 he's been credited with (arf, arf*).

* TSJ in-joke for our other readers**.
** both of you

showing pain

Ash - 8th July is away against Robinsons, then 15th away to Catholic club so better get right ASAP!!!

Top Of League

great effort to 1 and all, it only gets tougher
from here as everyone wants to beat top dog.
def 2pm we are no charity, does skunners not
work in mornings aswell?
had an xray on my knee yesterday everything seems
ok just soft tissue damage ie strained ligaments,
hopefully will be ok in couple of weeks.

p.s. great slip catching at weekend!!!

Monday, June 26

Early doors

I vote for 10am - the time of day won't make any difference to the conditions (it's set fair for the next few days anyway isn't it?). Personally I'd rather get back early, not so I can watch footy but so I can spend more afternoon time with the boys!

Saturday

10 till 2 match. Only if they play blind-folded and on one leg!

Saturday

Even though i'm not available on saturday I think the game should be played at 2 O'clock.

Saturday

Just heard from league that we are not allowed to shift game to sunday (cannot cope with all fixtures on Sunday and a different day brings potentially different weather so advantage/disadvantage, etc).
Only thing is we have been asked by ALSCC to move to 10am start so that we can get game out of way before footy. Can all likely 1st teamers please give a show of hands for 10 / 2 as a start time.
For what its worth (and me being an egg-chaser) I want to play at 2 - not that bothered about footy (I keep saying it and they keep winning); 10am might be a little too interesting for that dewy opening spell!; means we meet at Robin at 8.30am! And we have been kind to the opposition before (RCC beat us in the cup).

Top of the League

Top of the League then eh! COME ON!!!!!!

A big thanks to Catholic Club for beating Rochdalians on sunday.

Lets keep grinding out these results boys.

Go Team One!!!

Excellent weekend for you guys then!

Lets hope you can keep this going and bring back the goods come September.

Who did what over the weekend?

nervous laughter

tentatively.....we are top of the league......

TSJCC Jackets Russ?

Russell,

Have you put another order in for the jackets/rain coat?

Just to remind you that the 'old man' wants one and can i put an order in for a medium one for Lisa as well.

Any chance of some new navy blue caps?

Cheers

10 points

20 / 20

As CDO I would like to thank everyone involved in organising the 20 / 20 on Sunday - I have been informed that we have made considerable funds for the Club - and, despite a poor showing on the field, despite the weather, despite a lack of basic good manners from one team, despite a lot of other things out of our control - we came through it - Cheers for all your support and hard work - esp. all team members; Mrs Brooks and Mrs Meehan; The BBQ people; Derek and Martin; Daz/Mrs Daz and the locals; The bloke who lent the Bouncy castle; Scott and Helen for the 'Shy'; Nelly's lady for her stint on the bar; Mrs Coe for manning 'Shy' and castle; the bloke who lent the PA system; the church for the seating etc; and last but definitely not least, Mike Ainscoe (and Deborah) who, without asking, did the teas and manned the Bar ALL DAY LONG - good work fella!

I know you've gone to the trouble of spending your hard-earned time on blogging here at this site but I can't be pestered hanging about. I was here earlier but then I decided to go back to my own blog and use its facilities, eat and drink its metaphorical content, and then pop back here in time for a quick reply. Sorry I can't stay longer, got to bugger off again for a shower ... guess I'm just an arrogant ******* ******.

small balls are better than big balls

I presume young Duckworth that you mean ste smith?

It is true, no one is going to want to come to training on tuesday if England only need to scrape a really boring draw for both england and sweden to go through!

I'm all for moving selection and practice. If anyone is there tonight we can ask and sort it then.

Dan, do you have the availability sheet and will you be there tonight?

End of season bash - Bless you my son

Have not been doing any fines so there is a back log - will attempt to play catch-up on Saturday so as many people at pub as poss.
Also - it has been decided that this year's theme is to be MONKS - for a variety of reasons - Dicky P's sandals, the folically challenged playing fraternity (baldies), Nelly B's mate will still have his sack cloth from the Vikings, vows of silence (Boris), chastity (Boris) and abstinence (Boris) - also seeing Scott P and Russ in large hooded habits will be a tremendous sight (remember the guys at the Hark to Towler - "You're the biggest bloke in here...."

Anyone need a sofa?

Hi chaps,

We've just bought a new bit of furniture and so we're looking to get shot of our existing 3 piece suite. It's cream, fabric, quite nice really. Cost about a grand 3 years ago, we'd accept any sensible offer (150-200ish). Need to get rid by next Friday if possible!

Anyone interested, drop me a line or talk to me at the game tomorrow where applicable!

Can't wait to play tomorrow with a bit of sun on our backs, should be lovely!

East Lancs new home

Just had a look at ELPM purposed new home. It looks pretty good! Once they have it sorted can you see them hanging around in the NMCL with those facilities?

Dr Doom

The old man is okay to play on the sunday so expect some doom and gloom coming from the slip cordon!

Be prepared

No worries, already spoke to Dr Singh about Sunday. He is unavailable, but we have a 12th, 13th and 14th man for sunday so its OK. Could you confirm Dr Dooms availability for Sunday please.

Thanks

A big thankyou to all who purchase their clothing over the weekend. Approx £500 collected and most of the garments distributed.

If you have not managed to see me this week, please do so as soon as possible - I still have a few 20/ 20 kits in the boot, for which we need the cash (the club has already had to pay the bill).

I will bring down the spare garments with me this weekend (I know there was some interest from Pilky, Nellie and Chris Payton). I have 2 rain jackets (both XL I think) and 2 or 3 cricket shirts (L & XL).

I will also arrange for another order list to be started so that a further order can be placed if anyone else is interested.

Cup woe

Thought we were just a bit undercooked with the bat, but an excellent mid-innings performance with the ball (especially Bird and Scunners) to almost pull one out of the hat. Both teams were a couple of players down, would any of them made the difference? Very well batted Big Bird too, another great knock!

The arm's feeling ok, but very stiff - hopefully should be ok for Dalians on Saturday!

A taste of Sunday ...

Anyone like to see this on Sunday?

Those little Sri Lankans ...

"they'll be *****ing like big, black alsatians" at the moment with Mahmood, Hoggy, Freddie and Plunkers tearing through them. 82-8 at time of posting!

Is there anyone here who doesn't know what that quote comes from!? ;-)

Back to work now, I've spent half the morning being terrorised by those "bloody pigeons of Bills"

Seconds out ...

Round 2.

Forget the club banter, get over to RCC's blog and harrass young Danny ;-)

Clive's birthday

WARNING!!!!!!!
Anyone going to Clive's birthday party should in no way accept an egg mayo or (especially) coronation chicken sandwich. They aree likely to have been mae with the weekend's leftovers from unmade teas which expired on 24th May and will be both toxic and highly volatile (in a very Dan Brown anti-matter way).

...looking forward to hearing about the banter with RCC on Sunday...will anyone actually talk to each other or will players be texting and phoning on the pitch, or just saving it up for when they can get home and blog their insults from the safety of their living rooms. The newsletter is dead....talk is cheap...long live the internet...

Catholic Club!!!

Check out Catholic clubs blog!! it mentions this dispute!!!

http://rochdalecatholicclubcricket.blogspot.com/

End

My god!!! End this now!!!

I aint gonna ring because frankly the matter doesnt affect me!!!

I still waiting to hear what this breakdown in the communication was!!!

Anger management here come

Danny - seeing as though you will not ring me on this - can I point out that I did not ever say that the Abbers issue is a selection committee only issue - please read the blog - it refers to the Cotters issue being a selection issue - does it not?
The Abbers issue was sorted (prior to your insensitive blog) by the committee because Abbers sent a letter to the committee. Got it? Move on.

Awesome!

What can I say this has definitely been one of the entertaining days ever, i'm hooked!!! Love it!! Whats next then???

ps

Can I put all this in the next newsletter????
CDO has one in hand, there's a new one after that to go, this would mean a bumper issue!!! If we get some games in , there may even be some pictures (so I don't have to rely on old ones of Russ belting 6's and 2nd teamers walking discontentedly back from the wicket)

......

Sorry....Saturday

....

I don't think I can cope with this!!!
I think I'll have to resign from everything and put my efforts into doing what I do best - painting the fence (or just sitting on it).
Please feel free to comment if you feel this is/isn't/may be appropriate to post on this site. If not you can phone me or email me or just..............;)
By the way, I can stay for all the game on Sunday.

Happier times

Chaps,

It's Cliff's birthday on Sunday .... ;-)

Okies!!!

I dont think it is a Private matter for the "Selection Comitee"!!! Matt Abblett was a mate of everyone at the club. Im sure people would notice the fact that Abbers has left when he continuously isnt playing for either 1sts or 2nds. It is also only right that people who play for the club are aware as to who is Vice-Captain for the 2nds.

This matter does involve players at the club. Why should it just be a "comittee matter"???

as i put above, Abbers was mates with everyone at the club and we have a right to know that he has left the club. Im sorry but its time players at the club were told things like this. The club is about the players NOT just the comittee

It certainly looks that way paul!

Paranoia, Paranoia!

I'm removing this post as I've been notified that Matt's resignation was a private matter and he did not wish it discussed. Out of respect for Matt I think it best to remove the speculation. However I'm not editing anyone else's posts, while I might be more tech-savvy than a few users I'm certainly not turning into Big Brother*

* unless I can find that bloke Shabaz or whatever and give him a good smack ;-)

As an aside though, I do feel that we should be able to discuss anything on this site - it's not owned or run by the club, but by an external organisation, though I do agree about the sensitivity of certain subjects ... and I hardly think that anyone "world wide" could give a damn about what we do!

Again, again

Smifffy - these matters are, I feel, once again, better deliberated within the confines of our elected selection committee - I will tel tonight to sort it out.
Please can everyone concerned please be aware of the nature of the world wide web - it is world wide.

Fight, fight

CDO, the fact that cotters was leaving early was not the only reason he was put in the seconds. He needs to make a 2's appearance before our cup game (next weekend) so that he can be involved. Please bare this in mind when you have your discussion with Digger.

cotters

Cotters - you told Richard that it was Saturday you had to leave by 6 - that is why you were put in the 2's - FFS!!! Will speak to Dasher tonight and let you know - could really do with you both games.
Danny - I do not want to enter into a conversation with you on the blog site - please either tel or email me.

Sunday

Don't bite KC!!

I'm just making sure that you knowI have to leave early on sunday. I didn't realise that the cup game was away. I need to be at the Lowry by 7/7.30. So i'd have to leave around 5.30 6ish so I can get changed and get there.

If you want someone to take my place let me know.

Sorry

what???

Wheres there been a breakdown in communication???

Selection

Smifffy - thank you for blogging 2nd team - I do think that this is a good idea to put on the Club site and not on the 2nd team site only - obvious breakdown in communication can occur - can't it Danny!!!!!

nets???

Will there be nets tonight?

Monday, May 15

come on!

Great win Saturday boys - really well deserved for two people - Dasher in the runs and Cotters bowling/fielding. Also Clive sneaking the two fielding points - getting used to the dutch gloves?
NOTE - there is a meeting booked for tomorrow night either at the Royal (Rain) or after nets at Club for 20 / 20. Don't know whether its best to keep it to 3 Amigos and delegate from meeting - or have as many people at meeting as poss. We need a big effort on this as we attempt to bring off same as last year without the huge contribution of the Duckies (and probably worse weather). 20 / 20 is June 18th - so 5 weeks away! We are hosting Walshaw and Woodbank (gulp!).

howd'y partners

Hey you all, sounds like a great win on sunday, hope you all are doing well!! I join the married rank's on the 20th May so that will mean less drinking and less women for me ( not ) I am coming home in june for a couple of weeks in june so I'm looking forward to getting a couple of games in. Baseball just ain't the same as the hallowed game. I'm not just missing the game but the Stella after the game Bud light just dosn't match up, knowing my luck it will be fine all week then rain all weekend, Also were having a Wedding Party on the 18th June see my mum for details, Kick some butt at the weekend guys, I'll be checking the results like i do every week.

Ducky.

er, Birdy ...

It's not your memory that's atrocious, it's your arse - and your spelling ;-)

Great win yesterday, folks, following on from a terrific batting display on Saturday in the face of some excellent RCC bowling. 207-6 was a very good score in the context. Pity they didn't set us say 230 in 50 overs, now that would have been very interesting!

Grey Big eared one!!!

I was just thinking cheeky 'bar steward' - until realising that my memory's attrocious.

aching but chuffed

Would have been harder to put up with aching leg if we had not won yesterday - can I say what a good team performance it was - keeping them to 186 after the start they had then knocking them off in the mud - one of the best wins during my time at Totty. Unfortunately no fines this weekend - but like the grey, big eared one - I never forget (esp - Clive's run out, Richard 'watching' us at Rochdale CC, Russ's trumpy arse, Pilky's explanation of fielding on the boundary, plenty of pain showing, dirty whites, etc, etc).
