Newsletter News

In response (partly) to Nick - a newsletter has been completed, printed and stapled this very afternoon, and am assuming that Clive will do his silent deliveries with Santa in the next few days; that is if he can tear himself away from Rachel for long enough!
It isn't a 'Christmas special' so to speak, more of a 'Booby Loomba' tribute edition.
rock on!!!

cheque

I will post a cheque to clive for 20/20 kit

found out

The only ever time Richard has said anything risque or at all racist (we anglos can out sup them there chinese...) - was accompanied by the appearance (as if by magic) next to Richard of two of the aforementioned chinese blokes on the 8.20pm Tottington to Bury Bus - if only his timing was as good whilst driving (batting)!

No yard wall then!

I 'm sure it could be done in secret....... you're not afraid of being picked last at you Doc!!!

Our Famous Vikings!

I am not sure HOW I found this or WHY it happened, but there's a website out there with loads of discussion about which "group" is best, whether it's ninjas, pirates, Vikings, jedi etc.

And just look what someone posted!

TSJ viking warriors

Blinder!

"The first and second team captains picking those available in a school yard line up against the wall picking system"

Now that would be entertaining - imagine your morale if you were picked 22nd! ;-)

Just an Idea!

To start the season off next year why dont we have a practise match to get things going. The match could be played the week before the season starts. This could be done using our club only. Two teams picked from 22 available players. The first and second team captains picking those available in a school yard line up against the wall picking system. This would hopefully mean a fair way of doing it and creating two evenly match teams. You could even call one side Tottington and the other St.Johns. What do you think? It make senses to get some practise in before the competitive stuff starts, yes!
Well it's just an idea..........
I thought that last year that we went into it cold.
You could even incorporate some beer drinking into the day.....at the end of the hopefully.

This Saturday sees another Groundwork party at the ground. Even if there is snow on the ground there is work that could be done inside the pavilion. Why not bring the kids with sledges. We will meet at 10am and be finished for 12. The more we have the quicker we will finish. Please come and lend a hand.

Well Done

Skunners wants a beer everyone! Next Friday or Saturday, Bury(?) - please make yourself available/unavailable.

Did we Quake with Fear?

um, no. Great game last night. Just like last week we cruised into a halfway lead only to get pegged back at the end before running out 3 or 4 to the good. A very high quality match, some great football and some sublime finishing at times. Well played all!

Raised us any money yet, Jedi?

Thursday, November 17

Date for your diary!

Looking forward to finding out about the possible development plans. would of like to have attended but couldnt make it. Sorry!

Anyway a date for your diary for next year. On Friday 7 th July Lancashire take on 'them from over hil'l (Yorkshire in case you were unsure) in a twenty/20 match, starting at 1730. I know some people missed out on last years stuffing of the tykes (Russell and Kieron) so i thought i would let you know early doors to arrange those passes out for an evening of cricket and beer!!
Could be a good club night out................................. think about it folks! Last year there was Jonsey, Shalom, Dr. Doom and myself and i think Smiffffy turned up too. Great time had by all.

Wednesday, November 9

committee meeting

A really good meeting was had last night - from which I will be circulating (maybe via the next newsletter) a questionnaire to guage reaction to suggestions for investment and ways forward. I feel we need something to work towards - a focus for fundraising. ("Without targets you never achieve anything" - but as Richard would say,"Eagles may soar high, but weasels never get caught in jet engines").

Tuesday, November 8

committee

If only committee meetings were always this popular! In reality a hard core of three or four people go through mundane club and league matters to legislative proceedures the house of commons would be proud of. ANY suggestions / input / thought / help / etc would be more than welcome as cash (Dicky) is tight and the club is small. Always remember - an idea remains on paper until someone has the energy, time and drive to make reality.......
This meeting has been set to gauge members thoughts on future plans and I have already prepared a draught questionnaire to send to all members - no decision on future investments would be taken without, firstly, a majority from a quorate committee and secondly consultation with the membership - Clive can provide constitutional details to any member if they so wish.

Monday, November 7

come along

As Paul says, Committee Meetings are open to everyone. We do not operate a closed shop at TSJ. However, only committee members have voting rights.
Everyone are welcome to turn up and take part in discussion and have their say. Please come along.

It's YOUR club, have your say!

Hi all,

A general comment in response to Nick's message: it's not the committee's club, it's EVERYONE's club. I'm sure Clive and Kieran in particular would be most grateful for input from everyone at TSJ with regards to the future direction, whether it be in simple ideas for things we might try and implement to grand wholescale plans for leading our club forward.

The committee's in place to carry out the wishes of the club, not the 7 or 8 of us who sit on it!

So if you want to suggest ideas or make some points, drop any of us an email and we'll ensure they're raised tomorrow night.

development

As i'm not a member of the committee and dont really know what i'm allowed to know or say on club matters, i would like to ask the question of what is in the running for future developments? Also, is there a chance of consoltation with non-committee members on what would be a way forward for the club?
i can not attend the meeting even if it was possible but have an interest and would like to offer my opinion, for what it is worth.

Sunday, November 6

Committee Meeting

Guys. Don't forget the important Committee Meeting this Tuesday (8th) at the Royal from 8pm. It is regarding future development of the Club. Aplogies to me asap please.

Wednesday, November 2

5-a-side

I have made no further progress and had no offers of help - football is therefore cancelled this week. I will speak to individuals were possible and post the teams for next week in due course.

Tuesday, November 1

my phones not rung, yet

I'll play - if everyone else promises to have a 380mm titanium rod inserted in their left leg - level playing field and all that?

5-a-side

We have a desperate situation for this week with only 5 players avialable that I am aware of:

Mick J
Paul
Pearcy
Cotters
Phil

Those not available include:

Me
Richard
Ashley
Craig
Matt Ablett
Will

Those unknown:

Nick H
Clive

I have spoken to Richard and we are of the opinion that for the first time ever we may have cancel!! I would welcome feedback but I don't really have any time this week to be ringing around anymore.

Please feel free to try and make the numbers up to say 8 which is probably the least ut is worth playing with and give me a ring on 07799 868141 to discuss.

If I don't hear anything by Wednesday Evening I will cancel this week.

Should be OK from next week with about 5 people back.

Sorry!!!!!

Friday, October 28

very rounded characters?

round robin? roundabout? round the old oak tree even, but not all rounders!

Thursday, October 27

ahhhh

Silly me.

What I meant to say was that several players in our team are "all round".

Titter.

snigger

Doc - Have you fallen off your wagon after all these years? A team of all-rounders - you have just brought a smile to several NMCL club members!

No Footy!

Matt,

Correct - no footy tonight, but we'll be back with a vengeance (and depleted fitness no doubt) next week!

We are in essence a club of all rounders aren't we?

Me, Flash, Scunners, Nelly, Bird ... all bat high in the order and bowl. Then there's Cotters! Are Micky J and Cliff to be considered all-rounders? Nick Hud and Frankie B certainly do both, while both Fletchers have turned in useful performances with B&B. Mozzer Snr can strike a mean ball and has a fine technique to go with his relentless bowling. Craig Parky is a very useful all-round cricketer, though his bowling has not been seen much of late.

Then there are players like Holty, Mike Ainscoe and Steve Smith who are fantastic in the field, thus adding another dimension to their game. Smiffy has opened the batting for the 2s, while the first team skip turned his arm over this year too - captain's privileges there!

The CDO also pretends to bowl nippy little seamers!

I don't think Dickie P will mind if we class him as a batsman!

Cheers

Cheers Paul only sixth best, i'll be pushing for your spot in ten years time!

KC no its doesn't have to be a saturday, just generally finding out when people are available. It would be good to have some scoops.

Oh and am I right in thinking that there's no football tonight.

remember remember

Cotters - just got back from Lakes (v. wet)- good idea (always a good idea) to have a few scoops - only thing is 5th will be bonfire night for us with scrunters and I'm at a do ont' 12th - does it have to be Sat night?

Friday, October 21

Cotters in all rounder shock!

Matt,

Thanks to your spectacular progress, you can now justifiably be named our 6th best all rounder! ;-)

Whats all this about???

http://blogshares.com/blogs.php?blog=http://tsjcc.blogspot.com%2F

Thursday, October 20

Averages

Damn only 6 runs short of the magical 100 runs for the season. I did beat my target of 50 though! 20 Wickets as well does this mean i'm an all rounder?

I spoke to Skunners last night and we thought it would be a good Idea if we met up and have a few scoops soon. We were thinking around the 5th or 12th of November. What do you think?

Wednesday, October 19

thats more than lucky!

Sounds cheap compared to mine Dicky - not paid for scoring, having to watch you lot (and 2nds once!) and one whole season brought 18 runs - priceless?

Tuesday, October 18

UNAVAILABLE

Don't know who I have to inform nowadays but I am unavailable to play footie on Thursday. Sorry Guys.

Congrats to Mr & Mrs P on their new addition to the family.

Read em and Weep!

The scores on the doors, the averages are now available - follow the link on the right or simply click here - they'd have been great halfway through the season ;-)

girl's aloud!

When done Craig - we are the only cricket club with a rounders youth policy! (pretty sexist, CDO!)

Monday, October 17

Congrats Craig!

Many congrats to Craig! Fantastic news. Yet another prospective future scorer/tea-maker!

ON a slightly less pleasant note, the official NMCL averages are now online via the NMCL link. Yikes! I've also got the club 1st XI averages to upload, courtesy fo Cliff. Apologies for the delay, they're in a ludicrous format, so it's taking ages to sort out!

scott'll fix it

a bit of good news craig's wife jackie gave birth to a girl
last night about 7pm, weight 7lb 1oz congrats - get back
playing football you lazy arse!

- i have to be honest that before i left for
my hols scott did tell me that he was going to fix,
cheat and swap players to make sure the whites won
every game this season. obviously this did'nt happen
the 1st week i was away so well done to you scott for
fixing it last week.

i have been known to spit my dummy out on occasions
and act like a spoilt child but to accuse scott of fixing after
what he has done over the past few years is pathetic(even
worse than my tackle on mike ainscoe when the ball was in
the other half), i have'nt spoken to scott as i only got back
yesterday but would be interested to find out who made
these comments.

Friday, October 14

Don't Understand?

By whom have you been so accused, Scoop?

I can tell you one enormous difference, and that was that last week I played even though I'd been off work sick for three days with a very bad bug and had 0 energy and very little will to live. Essentially the whites played a man down last time - plus we had Mitchy playing his first game and being a bit of a free spirit!! Last night, we were all fit and well and we played some top football.

In my view, the other difference last night was finishing, simple as that. We had about even numbers of chances, our finishing ratio was tons and tons better, that's all. The game itself was pretty even - and very good quality. Matt and Richard especially played well for the R-Ts; Richard's improvement over the past 3 weeks has been enormous.

Obviously Will made a difference but I don't think had he and Cliff switched sides it would have made so much of a difference - at least not so much that you can be accused of "fixing". Outrageous.

vivre la diffrence!

Good to see that whilst the world is undergoing massive technological and social change, whole countries are being destroyed by natural forces and man is holidaying in space - The whites and the Rag Tags are still squabbling like two ancient highland clans - "You're a MacAngus - NOT a MacDonald!".
Scott - for the love of Rooney - you MUST continue to be a white!
You being a Rag Tag would be like Nick wearing proper sports equipment (not his train-spotting anorak) or Ash passing the ball to you when you are free on the right - its just not meant to be!!!!
(God I miss it...)

Thursday, October 13

5-a-side Selection

I have been accused of 'team fixing'.

I acknowledge that I decided (after consulting with Richard) that Clive should play for the Rag Tags and either Phil or Will should play for the Whites. This was to give a better balance to the sides. I admit that had Clive replaced Mitchy the Whites would probably have suffered a heavy defeat and I didn't want that.

Whilst the Whites are leading about 4-2 I think, all the games have been competitive with no sure winner at 9am based on the sides playing that night. That is all I was seaking to achieve tonight.

To say I changed the sides to ensure the Whites would win is difficult to accept as I had no idea how either side would play as the teams had never played together before.

I am extremely competitive and my desire to win is obvious to all so to ensure fair play from now on I will no longer be involved in team selection. I am pleased, however, to advise that Nick Hudson will be taking over from me.

Finally, for the record, whilst preferring to play for the Whites I will play were selected if it will help 'balance up' the sides.

Saturday

Sorry I can't help out this weekend, my mothers moving house this weekend so i'm otherwise engaged.

Sorry

I cant come down Saturday either, am out all day

junior team

It may well be a good idea, We will always need young players coming in or eventually the club will fold

Developments!

I think the development of a junior team or teams would be a good way forward for the club. Quite a few players have children so we may well have a core of possible players but the surrounding estate could provide players I'm sure. Who would run it? Again if tsj players have their children involved then they may well take active role in helping and coaching. Its an idea that would help prevent the club having a lack of players in years to come.

Thats my opinion anyway. Sorry Clive I can't make it Saturday

Wednesday, October 12

Groundwork & Committee Meeting

I am wanting to get a team of workers down at the Club on Saturday to do some tidying up and get things in ship shape order. Please let me know what times would be most convenient (am or pm) as I don't want to be down all day. Remember the more volunteers the less time it will take and the more work will get done.

Also, the committee will be meeting on Tuesday 8th November at 8pm in the Royal Hotel. The main topic of discussion will the way forward and drawing up a 3 year development plan. We have had 2 good years on the finance front and already made investment in the Club during that time. £700+ to improve square and outfield drainage. £205 on scarifier. £550 on roller. Renewed garage roof, bought new shed. With the continued success of the race night and the triumph of the 20/20 we still have a couple of thousand pounds surplus.

Having spoken to the officers of your club we now want to take that step of development to another level. This will include further fundraising via sponsorship packages and events. Plus the development of facilities. We are wanting suggestions for both whether it be a car boot sale on the fundraising side, showers on the improvement side or starting a junior side on the development side.

I am therefore wanting your ideas NOW plus input on how they can be implemented and how they can be carried through and sustained. This is something that isn't going to happen overnight but we have come a long in 2 years but we can go a lot further in the next 3 years.

Please let us have your input.

Testing ...

Cliff's complained that he can't post ... seems ok now?

Champions!!!

Lancs are the champions of divison 2!!!

Friday, September 23

I've always said ...

that the CDO is a right cult ;-)

Great win for the "Dream Team" Whites last night; it was a tough game for the first 45 minutes, and we were indebted to both clinical finishing and some top keeping from Ashley in particular for putting us about 5 up with a quarter to go - and then one or two of the RagTags lost it a bit and we ended up cruising it.

Some very good football played by both sides and some terrific team goals!

And a quality bit where Ash got slagged off by Scoop for losing his man!

cult hero

after scoring the og he got a great response from
the fans and as he was a bit unlucky to be sent off
the media think he's going to be a cult hero with the
fans.................... does that mean cdo if you get a golden
duck and drop 3 catches first game up next season we
may offer you the same status?

Yorkshire lad

another fantastic achievement by a 'son of yorkshire' - Jonathon Woodgate's 1st appearance for RM 17 for months. He came disguised as a spaniard (greasy hair, dishevelled), scored a beautiful OG and was sent off - only for his team to then play brilliant football with 10 - should keep to what he knows best (race relations in Leeds).

Thursday, September 22

and staying there!

Lunch scores ...

Northamptonshire 255 - 3
Yorkshire 177 all out

Lancashire 178 - 8
Leicestershire 165 all out

Meanwhile John Crawley is 298 not out!

Come on Donny!

Lancashire! You boys took another roses beating - oh to be a fly on the wall for SP's 'warm down'. 'Man' City - oh dear Cotters......

Wednesday, September 21

Huff and puff

Forget all this mindless banter, can we cut to a more pressing issue - can we put a limiter on the number of miles that have to be run in pursuit of Young Jedi? He doesn't tire and he runs about like a bloomin headless chicken from first minute to last. I realise the issue here is that we're not as fit as he is, but DAMMIT we are older and should be treated with some respect!! I think he needs to be issued with a tracking device and the rest of us with some artificial limbs that keep us going!

ho ho

mr cotters please don't criticise yourself especially
when i can do it for you, seriously thought you played
very well for the whites & scored some crackers -
unfortunately now you are just another rag to kick!

He he

Its only a bit of friendly banter, I know I'm rubbish and so does everyone else so if a do anything good its a bonus!

oh dear, Cotters....

Nope, just 1

Yorkshiremen NOT Yorkshire players - Vaughan is from the Red Rose!

er how many?

How many yorkshire players in the England team? Two surley! Hoggard and Vaughan or have I missed something?

just got back from woodbank where they galantly fielded for forty five overs, to keep who ever their opponents were (if it was cheetham hill as it said in the fixtures then i didn't recognise any of them) to a low total of 240. Woodbank then came out fighting and smashed 42 for 10 wickets.
Hopefully Rochdalians will win the fourth division though as woodbank is always a nice ground to visit and there team is made up of some jolly decent chaps! Which cannot be said for all teams!

who could possibly forget...

The Lord Flasheart!!! (Blackadder II)
"She's got a tongue like an eel and likes the taste of a man's tonsils"

I shall, unfortunately, be unavailable for anything this weekend.
Indeed, I have texted Scott to withdraw from footy this week as my heel (where I heroically stopped a ball at Robbies t'other week - waste of time that was - should have let it go for 4 like I usually do) is bloody killing after last weeks effort and it's a job trying to keep my weight off of it.

I have got one!!!

Hi guy's, How did the 1st go on at weekend? I wish I could be there to go out with you on Saturday because I have got a Pittsburgh Pirates shirt. Have a good one My Challange is seeing you are going as Pirates someone should be on shots of Rum in every bar, My candidate would be Scunners in my absence( I guess I'll get the mandatory none attendance fine )!!!!!

you old see dog

get your pirate costumes sorted now! You band of lilly-livered, milk-swigging land-lubbers!!! I wager you will either walk the plank or get a 'cat-o-nine tails' if you turn up not dressed for high-jinks on the hign seas.......

oh that treasure!

time is ticking (in the crocodile's mouth!) on Pirate outfits - there is to be a special prize for best outfit this year - so no cop-out eye patch and cutlass combos please.
Did the rag tags really win - you make an ex RT very proud....

Thursday, September 1

no pressure...

Just to remind all rag tags - we won the first game last season (yes, whites, that means that we scored more than you did) - what treasure do you smell dicky? - have you won bonus again?

Heads and Shoulders, Knees and Toes ...

... just four of my body parts that Nick H will no doubt be smacking his elbows into tonight! Can't wait for the first installment of footy fever, coming live and unleashed from Castlebrook this very night. Bring it on!

COME ON YOU WHITES!

Wednesday, August 31

committee meeting

Should we have an EGM about where to have this meeting? I have been informed that the venue is, after all, THE DUNGEON same day same time - anyone else who's not going to be present got an opinion?

what?

You go away for two days for your anniversary - hang your head in shame, boy! You can make up for it by having the most outrageous Pirate outfit on the 10th....

Race Night

Is that date confirmed for the 1st October? It's our anniversary on the 2nd so we'll be away.

Tuesday, August 23

sunny weather, gloomy outlook

Just a quick note from a frustrated CDO - because we are crap at the moment and the 1st team are playing one of the top two teams in the league on Saturday and the 2nds are striving to avoid relegation : do you think we should have a net tonight? Just a thought......

Monday, August 22

Something smells fishy ...

Saturday ...

First of all, thanks to those players who were able to turn up and fill in for us on Saturday, and sorry you had to be part of that fiasco! That was probably the worst fielding display I've ever seen, but I would like to single out Steve Smith who was terrific, never let his head go down and always keep up the enthusiasm levels even when we were getting mullered.

Well done to Glodwick, and particularly Mark and Stocky who batted very well after some early let offs - they do say catches win matches don't they!? A score of 276 suggests we bowled badly - actually I thought the bowling was fine, but on that wicket once you got in and were set, it was a peach of a track. With better fielding we ought to have kept it to about 200, which might have been gettable with a better start.

Took some spin though eh!!! ;-) (well done Clive for suggesting I try a bit of the twirlybird stuff - might try more in future!)

The batting was pretty shoddy, though I'd like to say well done to Seebert for two fantastic catches to get rid of me and Bird, and also Mike Ainscoe who I thought batted well on his return to the firsts. 48-1 to 90 all out - another typical collapse!

Hopefully we can just chalk Saturday up to end of season/nothing to play for apathy with a makeshift side and put up a stronger showing against Robbies when a few of the old guard return!!

Oh yes, and sorry I lost the toss ;-) hehe.

Robinsons

Just to let the selection Commitee know that I'm not available on saturday v robbies as i've got a function to got to. Sorry

Sad News

Just back from holiday and sorry to hear the sad news. My thoughts are with all those affected by this loss.

Friday, August 19

Thank You

Thank you, your thoughts are very much appreciated at this time,

Dan & Steve

Sad news

A sad loss to TSJCC, our thoughts are truely with the Moriarty family at this time.

Sympathies

Steve and Dan,

Offering you my sincerest condolences on your loss - this is awful news and I just want to let you know we're thinking of you. He will be very sorely missed by all.

More sad news.

Steve Moriarty's Dad, Chris, had been in poor health for some considerable time now and was recently diagnosed as being terminally ill. I'm sad to inform you that Chris lost his fight and passed away on Thursday morning.

Until his illness, Chris was a regular spectator and supporter of both both the 1st & 2nd teams when his family was playing and frequently scored for both teams. If my memory serves me right, I think he has also stepped in and represented the club on the field of play aswell.

Our thoughts are with Steve and Dan and their family.

Thursday, August 18

mange toutes, rodney!

Good luck at weekend to both teams - I'm off to Gay Paris tomorrow for a bit of vin, be back Sunday.

Glorious evening last night - 4 second team players netting - it must be great to be in the 1st team, winning all the time, not needing to practise....

Thursday, August 11

Awesome Vaughan!

He's on 165 now!!!!

*Another* 150 would be stupendous!

Oooooooo Tetchy!

You are correct, he is indeed a fine upstanding Lancastrian and he definitely owes us runs - about 150 would be lovely thanks very much!

cheers

Vaughan's batting well (41n/o at lunch) - just been in a chip shop - the guy said "Yeh - bloody Yorkshire bast#rd owes us some runs!" - I pointed out two very salient points to him - firstly that he is in fact a bloody Lancastrian and secondly that this BYB was taking his custom elsewhere!

Everyone's at OT!

Well a good four or five at least are ...

I'm chasing a couple of people (Andy mainly), will keep you posted.

Come on England!

shhhhhh!

oh its really quite out there now! - is this because no one knows anybody that can play or are we all waiting for the Aussies to start bowling?

desperate

calling all Totty....calling all Totty.....
We are approx x3 players short of 22 for Saturday - can anyone please pursuade, blackmail, threaten, drug, whatever (trevor) to stop us from being fined (and hammered) - contact either me or Clive or Jonesy - to me, turning out 11's and fulfilling fixtures is just as important to us as a club as winning trophies/hosting big events like 20/20.

Wednesday, August 10

NMCL Game

Game ended with us 205-6ish, about 20 short. I was 2nd top scorer with 36, and Mo hit an absolutely excellent 61 off 26 balls to almost win it. Bird went in right at the death and got about 10 not out. The Sri Lankan batsman who got all the runs for them was very very quick, and several of us are quite bruised!! He could have killed Darren Smith if he hadn't got a glove in the way.

NMCL

What was the outcome? Who got any runs?

Monday, August 8

CD

Mike Ainscoe is now back from the US and he is the one dealing with it.

Who do i give the money to for the cd with the 20/20 photos on?

Friday, August 5

bon chance!

Good luck to both teams this weekend!
Please can you all fine yourselves loads as we are well behind on fine-fund raising - or I could just double fines for remaining games! (evil laugh....)

Tuesday, August 2

small world innit?

Just back from Corfu - bumped into 2 blokes (and their families) from Robinsons - Darren Smith? At least I shared the bad news re Rochdalians beating us and going top.....
1st good day you've had for a while - can we have a net tonight?????

Monday, August 1

Now hang on there....

Well I never Mr Ainscoe. Not only do you miss the peak of my batting career so far, meaning not one photo of the event but you have a go at the slightly lucky aspect of the innings. For someone who regularly plays and misses for fun outside the off-stump it's a bit rich.....at least when I hit it I tend to welly it!!!! Oh, it was the old man aka Dr Doom who originally made the accusation about your ability to play and miss I'm merely voicing the rumor mike!

hang on...

just spotted N Fletcher dropped 3 times before reaching 50.....now there's a surprise!

Howdy pardners

Hi guys
Just logged on to see what's happening in goog ol' England UK.
See Nick got a nice 50 - but how long did it take to get off the mark guy??
Just make sure you get a win next week guys!
Kieran's back soon and has been left a newsletter with a load of stuff from the 20/20 which seems ages ago now.
Speak soon
Bye for now - Alan Whicker.....

Visit to Rowdy Hill ...

Chaps, I'll be going straight there tomorrow ... ;-)

Wednesday, July 27

Viewing "that place"

Unfortunately that area of the M62 isn't covered in very good resolution in Google Earth, but you can see the placemarkers I've added ...

Rowdy Hill

I do hope that some members, if not all of the 1st XI will make the pilgrimage to the top of 'Rowdy Hill' and produce some photographic evidence! Oh and see if any of the signs have survied and not been turned into fire wood. Come on fella's you'll will be glad you did it when you seen the view of Hollingworth lake and beyond, maybe not so much the view of the motorway bridge.

Tuesday, July 26

Team Selection

1st XI v Rochdalians (Away). Meet Robin Hood at 12.30pm. N Butterworth (c), C Brooks, R Brooks, M Chadwick, M Cotton, P Meehan, A Parkinson, C Parkinson, R Peacock, P Skundric, S Smith. Scorer : K Brooks.
For 2nd team see 'Life in the 2's' website

Yes, but ...

As far as I know, it's these players' first seasons ...

poor

Its time the nmcl put its foot down, these players shouldnt be playing for the 2nds, the league should star players not the clubs

NMCL 50th Anniversary Game

Dan - yes! And another first teamer (Ur-Rehman) got 140! Outrageous, they won;t get away with it next year ;-)

For those who are unaware, there is a game at Elton Vale on Sunday August 7th to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the NMCL, it's an interleague representative side versus an "all-star XI" put out by ex-soccer pro David Cross.

Big Bird and I were selected in the initial XI and I'm delighted to add that Clive has now been added to the team (though we all reckoned he should have been in it to start with). It's a pretty strong side (including the aforementioned Shakir from F&H and Mo from RCC). Sunday 7th August at EVCC, wickets pitched 2pm!

Fothergill & Harvey 2nds!!!

FOTHERGILL & HARVEY II
346 - 2
V
GREENMOUNT III
303 a.o.

Big scoring game!!! 1st teamer Shakire got 167 not out!!!

footie

I am available for footie if you feel like allowing me to come this time

Monday, July 25

5 - a - side

No I've not gone mad - football starts again 5 weeks on Thursday.

This year I feel we may need a bigger 'squad' than last as we will have a few omissions as the weeks progress, notably.....

Paul - with child no. 2 on the way
Me & Ashley - hopefully watching Bolton in a few UEFA matches on Thursdays
Kieran - with his ongoing recovery

Can the 'regulars' start putting the word about at weekends to see if any of our new cricketers are interested and let me know please.

The first 'match' will be on Thursday 1st September - same venue and time.

Where is the Summer going??

Thursday, July 21

A bit like a TSJ collapes

Great start to the first day of the ashes, shame about the ending, are we even going to get a ton on the board? anyway i found a little something to relieve the frustration go to bbc.co.uk and under the ashes link there is a game called Corked and Bowled where you can throw a cricket ball at the heads off Warne and McGrath etc. it's not as good as that stick cricket from last year but will give you about 5 minutes of entertainment and a little chuckle, good luck at the weekend and kick some butt!!!!!!

Rubbish!!

Second best test side in the world my arse!!

Simon Jones ...

Jones took a wicket in the first game of the last tour before he did his knee in ... so it's his 2nd, but what a fantastic start - not to mention Harmy cranking it up and roughing up the top 3!

Fielding points change

Richard

The fielding points for the woodbank game have changed

Rob Holt gets one point and Graham Fletcher gets 1 point rather than Ste Horner getting 1,

cheers

from Dan

Wednesday, July 20

1st XI V Ashton Ladysmith

N Butterworth (c), C Brooks, M Chadwick, M Cotton, N Hudson, P Meehan, A Parkinson, C Parkinson, R Peacock, P Skundric, S Smith. Scorer : K Brooks. Meet Robin Hood 12.30pm. Please advise me if going straight there.
Have 2nds got a scorer ? - don't want to get fined

Some sad news.

Just a quick announcement of the sad passing away of Mrs Christine Murray, on Monday I believe. Christine Murray was the wife to Russell and mother to Alex, both former players of the 2nd XI. Her funeral is on Friday, which my father is hoping to attend. I will send a card on behalf of the club. For anyone not fortunate to have known Mrs Murray she was a lovely and immensley brave women who had battled against cancer for sometime. Our thoughts are with Russell and Alex and his sister.

Tuesday, July 19

Crompton Meadows from Space!

Just unbelievable. If any of you out there haven't seen or heard of Google Earth, then go and have a look now. It is a collection of maps and satellite imagery taken from space and covers the entire globe - some places you can even see people walking in the streets. truly incredible.

To test it out, I've gone down streets in Baghdad, flown over the Sydney harbour Bridge and even had a look at Crompton Meadows!

Here are a c ouple of views of our ground - note that for many major towns and cities, the imagery is much clearer. For example, I can see my next door neighbour's car on the driveway!!

Monday, July 18

Chewed Nails

Good grief lads, we don't make it easy for ourselves do we? 149-2 chasing 199 to win ... and we lose 6 wickets for 12 and only just get home thanks (mainly) to Cliff! Great win though, we showed some character at the end of the WLM innings to keep them down to 198 when 225 could have been on the cards. Good work from Richard too, enjoyed batting with you, fella!

Nice to see so many of the 2s down as well, gave us a bit of an audience and it was a nice club day!

Well done 1sts

2nd hard fought victory on the trot. Well done lads.
Anyone know what happened with Elton Vale match?

Friday, July 15

A virgin blog.

Face paints

Tuesday, July 12

marvellous effort that

had to get on the site to mention sundays awesome day.
i've been watching & playing for johns for a while even when we had
a junior team ran by dennis stringfellow(think), sunday was my best
day of watching cricket the way it was organised how well the day was run
was spectacular. obvious highlights the bowling & fielding
and paul & russ batting agianst radcliffe. in the 2nd match i thought cotters
hit some awesome shots-dont get to bigheaded cause i thought your bowling was crap,
only joking, with a bit more luck in the field you could of nicked it - well done to
everyone who took part.

hopefully come saturday i might be more involved on a playing side.

Pics

Superb Pictures I've still not come down from hitting 2 big six's! Especially the one off Ashy!! But the one that cleared the Hospitality tent was special as well. Tremendous day enjoyed by all (well apart from radcliffe)

Lets hope this will kick start the rest of the season knowing we can beat and also compete with teams at a higher level.

pics

Great pics from both Nick and Mike! Went into shed last night to retrieve pots/pans - quite eerie - the only thing left from the day was the stale smell of booze (in the hut - not my breath!)

Hear Hear

Agree wholeheartedly with all said!
Just to raise a few more for the coffers I shall be putting my photos onto CD for those wishing to have a set of photos from the day - containing a veritable selection of allsorts - it'll cost you a small donation to club funds. Imagine the endless fun you can have distorting the faces on the team picture, or even go down to Boots and get some prints done. Cheers all!
Also - new (last before holiday) newsletter almost ready including some pics from 2020 and lots from recent 1st team games AT LAST!

Micky J ...

Mike,

Can you let me have your email address so I can set you up for blogging please? Forgot to take it yesterday in the aftermath/excitement! Drop me a line - Paul.Meehan@manchester.ac.uk

A Day to Remember!

Excellent day for Totty cricket club. Big clap on the back for everyone but especially for CDO who has co-ordinated everything so well, and the Duckworth clan who brought people along who have given up their spare time to help us put on the event. Sorry i wasn't there to help at the start and finish (busy day at the fletcher house i'm afraid) but i enjoyed watching Totty's now famous victory over Radcliffe Racers. Hopefully i will have some good photo's (haven't check yet) of the match. I will blog them when i get a chance, if they are any good!

wow

Here here..

Special day... well done everyone.

SO PROUD

What a wonderful day for TSJCC. IN 17 years of representing this marvellous, friendly little club, I've rarely enjoyed a day as much. Huge crowds, great games of cricket, our "tinpot" club hammering seven bells out of Radcliffe and their spoilt whining boys, a great final with Greenmount, the organisation on and off the field.

It's a day WE as a club can ALL be truly proud of. Get those chests puffed out boys (and girls!) because this was OUR day and we played a blinder.

Too many great moments to mention from our own games, but a few immediately stick out.

Big Bird hitting the winning blow against Radcliffe and landing the ball on the marquee.

Getting John Ashy out THREE times effectively for 22.

Clive's great catch off Scunners.

Smithy's all action fielding.

Nelly Butt's square cut (the second one).

Kieran walking around with pride radiating from him.

Digger's emotional speech at the end.

The cheers when we beat Radcliffe.

and many, many more.

A good day. A Bloody Good Day.

Friday, July 8

COME ON!!!!!!

Really looking forward to this weekends games. Weve got to win on saturday to get back the momentum for the 2nd half of the season. Focus fella's!!

Sunday all round should be a fantastic day for the Johns, weather looks great therefore more people down at the ground. The razzle is on the case with the pasta salad so things are looking up.

There's not much to say really but COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thursday, July 7

Twenty20 - It's a club game...

Can I assume that all those who have so readily made themselves available for this fantastic club event will in future be available to play for the club and not just the team of their choice??

90 MPH bowler

As blogged before about one not playing, I dont care if he is really at the end of the day we will probably all face one of his pace at some point during our lives,

So the music, do we bring a song we want on when we are walking out?

Its going to be a good day (weather hopefully gonna be nice) and im really looking forward to it :)

90 mph my arse!

There's about 15 players in world cricket who bowl at that speed. Plenty of bowlers in NMCL at 80mph on a hard track, so it won't be any quicker. The faster it comes, the faster it'll be going. That's a guarantee!

I was reading an interesting piece following yesterday's historic announcements:

"It is a wonderful opportunity to show the world that our traffic congestion problems are a thing of the past, we will all pull together to make this event a shining beacon for the country and a milestone in sporting history. A million thanks to all those who have helped bring this event to such a big stage. Volunteers will be drafted in numbers and will wear coloured clothing, catering will be of the highest order and the facilities will be second to none. Oh yes, and Cotters will be opening the bowling!"

;-) BOOM BOOM

appropriate music

Cotters - have you got the theme tune to Laurel and Hardy for when you go out to bat?

Exactly

They should be more concerned about the Meehan, Cotters and Skunners pace attack!

Are we having music? if so I could bring down some of my collection, I'm sure The Kings of Leon and Queens of the stone age would go down very well!! But seriously i've got Dreadlock Holiday, you know " I don't like Cricket" number.

Tittle-Tattle

Dan - mind games.....Just turn up and have a great day - whoever....
I was thinking last night - It would be great to have a Lions-type presentation of the Hot-Totty shirts ("Wear it with Pride.....Those who have gone before....An honour and a privaledge.....You are the chosen few.....History being made....")

90MPH Bowler!!!

One of the 2 (the one that plays for Lancashire U19s) is not playing on Sunday!!!

Wednesday, July 6

good fella

Sorry - Nic just wanted to involve as many as poss. I'm more nervous than players! Hopefully see you down there - if 1st game takes max = 2 x 75mins then we should be on at 1.30 - 2.00pm latest - BRING IT ON!!!!!! It is not "Weather permitting" as a result must happen so even if Noah floats by in his Ark - we all have to be there - we cannot cancel - all team members (minus Clive) bowl at wickets for victory.

20/20 Not for Me!

Sorry CDO but I'm not available for sunday (I know I only a reserve). Might be down to catch Totty's match....... hope fully. Again sorry, would have liked to be there from the off but it is clashing with other things.
laters.

Groundwork

Sorry can't make it tonight, going out celebrating sarah's new job. Can't really do anything until the weekend to help out at the ground, really sorry but I've got a very busy week.

prog

No problem with programme - I've no info from Radcliffe/GMCC so will have to just put rules in(?).
Good work on grass front.

GRASS CUTTING RESULT !!!

Hollymount Farm have agreed to cut the football field for us on either Thursday or Friday (this is a definate so long as the tractor with 8 ft wide cutters can get through the gate).

Kieran is it to late to give them a mention in the prog? (Thanks & Advert for Hollymount Farm Shop?)

I will be down tonight approx 7.45pm.

Dry!?

Think you'll find the forecast is thunderstorms and very heavy rain so not much chance there, CDO! Can't make the meeting tonight but getting very excited about the weekend. Though let's not forget we have a vital league game on Saturday that we really can't afford to lose. We must pull out of this slump NOW.

grass

Hopefully staying dry today - although rain did not stop Dasher and Clive's monumental efforts yesterday. The 'Panda' strimmed the whole of the 'estate' side - big thanks all round!
Anyone involved in the Twenty/20 (ie everyone at TSJCC!) should come to the ground tonight to be aware of their duties / help prepare the ground. The time has gone for new ideas, we have enough on our plate doing the basics.
The squad (of 14/15) will be announced tonight from which two teams will be selected on the day. All players should come changed to help with (lack of) facilities at 9.00am Sunday. We will confirm when kit is available. I am available for contact re the day at any time.
Kieran.

laters

They'll never know....

Russ I have also negotiated a pass, thinking that I'd pay on the night (Ta - Dicky). Why don't we pretend we're going, and watch it in a pub getting lashed????
I need to celebrate my good news - the x-ray on Thursday showed new bone growth (means my leg is now repairing and will be OK). Fitness for 20/20 might be pushing it a bit, though.....

20/20 Roses Update

The match is now sold out.

Having successfully negotiated with 'her indoors' I have been thwarted at the final hurdle.

By the way might have some 4 and 6 signs, and will ask about drinks tonight and put it on here around 5:30 to 6:00 tonight.

20/20

Had a really good meeting last night - has focussed everyone as to enormity of the challenge - we can only pull this off with the help of all possible personnel - thanks to all who turned up - I will be circulating minutes of meeting with individual tasks clearly confirmed this weekend - really excited about it all!!!
NB Please make yourself available for selection this weekend we need to select the squad of 13/14 and order clothing. Clothing is available to non players (I will be fully decked out) and will look really good. Everyone from both teams should make themselves available - the opportunity to play 20 over cricket in pyjamas to music is fantastic - AND WE ARE THE HOSTS!!!

hi boys sounds like we were rather unlucky on Saturday, can somebody please give me some more details on the poleaxing on Sunday sounds painful ( but funny )

Weekend Report

Here's the report submitted to the BT this week. On a side note, Robbies pulled off a fabulous win yesterday - Derek F 9-26!?!?!?!

Tottington’s bid to make progress in the NMCL First Division title race faltered at the weekend due to a combination of poor weather and a stubborn partnership! On Saturday the Saints travelled to 2nd placed Robinsons. In stifling conditions Tottington elected to bat, a move which appeared to backfire as they were bowled out for a mediocre 110. Poor shot selections and an uncharacteristically bad Robinsons track contributed to most of the wickets, with only Russ Brooks (39) and Nelly Butterworth making serious contributions. The departure of last weekend’s hero Skundric hastened the Saints collapse; having been handily placed at 77-3, Tottington fell apart and it took some valiant work from Matt Cotton to support Butterworth and get the total into three figures.

With Robinsons top 4 batsmen each averaging over 40, the game looked to be all over. However this Tottington side excels in the field, and with Meehan proving miserly at one end, wickets fell rapidly. Robinsons skipper Massey was crucially run out by Ablett and seamers Watts and Skundric decimated the middle order to leave Robbies teetering at 80-9. Unfortunately for Saints the home side bat all the way down and a combination of luck and some huge swipes from Emmett saw the home side through to a 1 wicket win and 5 points, leaving the Saints far more dejected than they would have been if they’d lost by 10 wickets! On the plus side, all the bowlers performed well and there were terrific contributions in the field from all the team, with Peacock and Smith in particular outstanding.

Sunday’s match with Springhead fell victim to the biblical deluge which hit Tottington at around 4pm; Saints had again elected to bat and the farcical run out of Meehan, poleaxed by skipper Deegan in mid-run, sparked a third successive early slump. However, Steve Smith continued his recent good form with a well constructed 26 not out as Tottington gradually eased themselves into the game. The onset of thunder and lightning hastened the end of the match, leaving Tottington with a frustrating haul of just 2 points from a weekend which could have seen so much more progress made.

Challenge

Caught a glimpse of the highlights of England V Bangladesh in my drunken stupour last night.

Fantastic new shot being perfected by Trescothic which I am sure must be attempted at our level given the chance. Involves leaning back to a shorter pitched ball, attempting to guide it over the keepers head (or into his face if standing up!). Tresco actually managed to get one so fine it actually went for four at a very fine leg - much to the amusement of the rest of the England team.

Can't wait to give it a go! Bring on Derek Faulkner.

20 / 20

MEETING ALERT!
There is a meeting booked for next Tuesday (21st June) at 9.00pm at The Royal to discuss all related items to the 20 / 20 we are hosting on the 10th July. Please - as many as possible to attend as we are going to need lots of hands on the day (not just players). This is our chance to show many other (bigger) clubs that TSJCC are a truely great family club - the opinion is probably that we are the minnows both in terms of cricketing prowess and facility but we can make up for both with enthusiasm and fun (both possibly lacking from the larger clubs?). Thanks for your help - this could be an annual event which raises cash for us......

ALSO: 2 games this weekend - first is 2nds on Sat - so a lot can be done sat am - please help your resident (uphill) gardener!

Thursday, June 16

Groundwork

Two games this weekend and not been able to do much work on ground this week. Any offers of help on Sat and Sun mornings please or will I have to do it all myself again ? Yours hoping !!

You can tell Kaye I had her lined up for a "Nursey Massage Tent" - a dress rehearsal will obviously be needed.......

Twenty/20

Twenty/20 action at Bury sports. Unsworth in whites fail against Elton in the Blue! Posted by Hello

It wasnt quite what I expected... but looked good fun to play in.
Did more people turn up after i left CDO?

work out the math

1st Div table has us in 3rd with 27 points - surely we're 7th with 22????

see you in the final

funny how things you say come back to haunt you....

20/20 @ Bury yesterday

Exciting finish in the final deciding match of the first group yesterday - Bury needed 6 of the last ball to win but failed (having only needed 8 from the last over).

Elton CC (incorporating our own overseas star) won the group and go forward to the finals day.

Very low scoring competition overall with Elton only scoring 88. Bury looked to be well on the way with the openers hitting out from the start, but after being about 50 for 3 the wheels came off and some excellent bowling and fielding from Elton saw them through.

Met up with Digger, Scunners and Nellie.

It is rumoured that Radcliffe may be arranging for 2 coach loads of fans for the Crompton Meadow outing on July 10th!

Lets hope for good weather.

Totty Pro

Unfortunately Skunners will not be able to play in 20/20 - no professionals allowed.
Always a bit of controversy with Glodwick - Parkinson feuds, etc - but you've got to ask the question -"What were you doing No.11?".

Thursday, June 9

How did that happen then?

"Did you give me your best?"

"Rocky" Brooks has 5 stitches above his right eye (cricket ball)- you plonker Rodney!

The launch dinner takes place this Friday (10th) at Woodbank CC. Tickets are £10 each with guest speaker either Warren Hegg or Ian Austin (depending on Warren's Lancs committments). Derek Kay is the MC for the evening (that should be fun in itself). Pie n Pea supper will be served.
At present Me, Kieran, Russ, Cotters and Scott are going. If anyone else is thinking about it, don't just think and do it and therefore let me know by Wednesday evening.
PS I will wanting a model to dress up in the coloured clothing for the launch photograph for the Bury Times.

Another Site!?

Dan, why not just put the scorecard on the site with the pictures so it's all in one place? Just a thought ...

For any readers who don't know our score from the weekend, we were shafted by the rain after we looked to be cruising to victory. Fothergills all out for 177 after being 170-5 with 18 left! I ended with 6-42 and Big Bird 4-38. Some tremendous catches, particularly Smithy who had his best game in a TSJ shirt for my money.

Batting wise we started great, Dash and I put on 50, Bird and I were then carrying on the work until we came off for rain. That put a bit of a dampener (ho ho) on things, and when we were both dismissed in quick succession the wheels came off. Skunners and Smithy put on 50ish to get us within sight of victory but the rain meant we lost 12 overs and the end of innings slog saw us fall 10 short when under normal circumstances we could have strolled home. Perhaps a lesson here is that our tail have been very undercooked batting wise, and it was possibly unfair to expect Cliff, Craig, Dickie and the Hud to get us home when they've had little cricket.

A very disappointing 5 points dropped in a game we dominated for some periods. Credit to Fothergills, particularly their number 5 who hit a very good 80odd. The bowler (Shakir?) was quick and on the money too.

Glodwick next week and with a week of sun forecast a nice hard pitch will be a treat!

Day 5 " The Life of Cotters"

6.15am - Young Cotters wakes up feeling a bit sore from the 2 games over the weekend.

6.16 to 7.00am - Snooze!

7.15am - Its breakfast time in the cotters household the lovely "Sazzle" (mrs cotters) prepares wheatabix.

7.35am - Still a bit sleepy cotters drives to work and has his first cigarette of the day at the roundabout in Rawtenstall.

What other exciting things can cotters get up to next! Keep watching.

Letters

He's certainly awesome in Scrabble!

On a more serious note, this is BOB:

if you want to know why this is relevant, check out its creator ...

On a more important point

Ricky Hattons opponent Kostya Tszyu didn't make the 10 stone weight limit for the IBF light welterweight title fight in Manchester on Saturday night.

This should hopefully play into hattons hands although tszyu is awesome...

Red Rose Wilting

Lancs collapse

Bangladesh are doing better than lancs at the moment. Lancs are 50 for 6 at lunch.

2nd Test

Looks as if the 2nd test will be over in 2 days again! 66 for 5 at lunch, its embarrassing. They should definetly have to look at the test status for Bangladesh.

I'll try to get down to the club as early as I can.

rape

If anyone is available to attend next sunday 12/06 at Bury CC we can probably see what works & what doesn't - the first 20/20 begins at 10.30am - take their best ideas and ditch their worst.

Thursday, June 2

Groundwork

Square fine but outfield taken a battering this week with rain. Also likely to take another hammering again tomorrow looking at forecast.
This means will need alot of work on Saturday morning and it will be more than one man can do. This is a plea for some help from 9.30am onwards.
I thinks its Light blue and royal blue if I remember rightly.

Totty..hot or not?

what colour are Hot Totty going to be doing their thing in. How about the brooks bros doing the trumpet and sax bit when Brooksbottom take on Radcliffe? I hope we have plenty of these orange balls and ball boys.

Super Hot Totty

Just back online after a few days without Net access (except very brief) and just want to say I can't wait for the 20/20 - 100% available for playing and all other tasks. BRING IT ONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.

Osama's Diary sounds wicked. Nice.

20/20

I'm enjoying the name especially when you've got me in the squad!! Any kind of help before/during the event i'll be available to do my part.

I've been speaking to my friends and they're always asking when we're going to be in a final again as they enjoyed the Cup final in 03 alot. So the crew and family will be attending the event. Any excuse to get beered up!

20/20

TSJCC TeamTalk

I will be down, let me know if you need any stuff,

Plenty of work

Well the name is better than east lancs paper MILLERS. not much thought there! It seems that there is going to be plenty of work needed to get things up to scratch and ready. Sight screen and the parking facilities for a start! we need to start now! I'll should be available to do my bit...just lets not leave it to last minitue. Is the committee on top or things or has some one been hand the task of sorting out the troops.

GOOD NAME -

Nic - it is even better when you consider some of the other names - Prestwich Metro....
We will be underdogs and from the meeting realise that some teams are taking it seriously, whereas we want to make some money for TSJCC and have a laugh. We need everyones input on the day - 10/07/05 and ANY positive suggestions will be enthusiastically received and delegated back to fulfil. Music in-between overs/for 4s & 6s/wickets; prize for catching the ball as a spectator; face painting; bouncy castle; BBQ; Licensed Bar; Programme (newsletter for the day); marquee; coloured clothing; orange balls; blue stumps; etc. What we REALLY need is members to give their availability for playing and organisational duties (Car Parking/Stewards/ticket sellers/spectators/etc) AND BRING FRIENDS AND FAMILY.
Other venues are bigger and more equipped than us - lets show 'em that Totty is the BEST club socially - COME ON!!!!!

Third ump!

Sorry Clive, just not to keen on it but if the committee.....
This third umpire, hows it gonna work? are there goinig to be camras and scafflolding down at the meadows. The other thing is that it's usually a struggle to get two umpire, so how are they going to get three?

Wednesday, June 1

20/20 Comp

The name was a joint committee decision and we are quite proud of it. In fact been told by organisers it is the BEST. Yes there will be music, clothered clothing and wickets, orange balls, music, licensed bar, face painters, BBQ and 3rd umpires. Should be a good day if weather is kind.

20/twenty

TSJCC TeamTalk

So will the players be in their whites or is there special kits gonna be made? will there be music between wickets?

Hot totty?

Clive just got your email.....Hot Totty, is that what we're gonna be called for the twenty/20 comp? who's idea was that? i'm sure there has to be a better name! And are hot totty going to be dressing up? maybe something bright and flared or with flames going up the leg.
Perhaps a 70's disco on the square after the match.....all aboard the LOVE TRAIN!

Day 1 " The life of Cotters"

12.30 - Ate Lunch - Ploughmans Baguette with Cheese & Onion Crisps (Walkers Naturally) and a Can of Fanta. I forgot the Kit Kat, the Four Fingered variety.

1.06 - Text Smifffy to let him know I was available for Sunday.

Tresco Shining

It's always the kiss of death when I post stuff like this, but ... he's on 173 and counting!

BTW, we didn't mention my little error to Digger the other week. The world's slowest opening bowler bowling for Ashton and Digger's facing up.

Doc P: "My god, have you seen? They've put a short leg in, what on earth for?"
Within 10 seconds, Digger's caught - at short leg!

Battle of the Faiths????

What you mean Adam Faith and Faith Brown?????

See You There!

I'll be going direct too ... meanwhile here's some Friday fun aimed at Scunners!

Researchers have finally decided how late is late - 10 minutes, 17 seconds.

That is the lateness threshold at which people feel it necessary to telephone and admit they are going to be late.

During that time, 12 babies will be born in England and Wales, there will be eight road accidents, 3,804 people will board an aeroplane and 590 million e-mails will be sent worldwide.

However, about 10% of us would not consider calling until at least 30 minutes beyond the "agreed appointment time", says the study, by motorists' website GetMeThere.co.uk.

More than 80% of people in their 50s claim they are never late for anything because they are gripped by "bus fuss" - the anxiety about being late for crucial events.

But almost 70% of young women believe it is "acceptable, if not fashionable" to be late on a first date because it makes them feel "less desperate".

On one subject, both men and women agree - they "wouldn't care" if they were late for their mother-in-law's birthday party.

Great News ... and a Giggle

Gents,

I think I told most people at the weekend, but for those that weren't present, I'm going to be a dad again - in November! ;-)

Also picked up a bizarre self-inflicted injury on Sunday, which any watching newsletter editors will be desperate to take note of. While participating in a rugged contact sport I smashed my lip and also cut my face. Several pints of blood loss later I was able to continue. Sounds severe doesn't it? Let this be a warning to you all. Avoid table tennis at all costs!

Good luck Ducky

TSJCC TeamTalk

Good luck in the states Ducky and cheers for the pint ;)

It started to kick off as I was leaving dont know why though,

robin hood thuggery

remind me again why we go there.....is it Christina's baps? Stella? the witty repartee we share with the locals? Car Parking? Co-op Store? You can keep em all, thanks - bad feeling/atmosphere is one thing, but mindless in-fighting will encroach upon TSJCC's space sooner or later and in the words of Sir Dash,"I'm a lover not a fighter!"
Good luck in the states ducky! Shake Malcolm Glazers hand for me!!

What happened on saturday then?

Don't forget the meeting this Tuessday night at 8.45pm (after training & selection) in the Royal.

Game on Monday

Bury Cricket Development Group have a game on Monday night (sorry about short notice). Martin Kay advises the team are a couple of men down. Anyone interested please don't blog but call my mobile 07939223943 during the day on Monday and I will pass your details to Martin. Normally a good game against a touring team from the midlands. Last year got beat hands down. By the way the game is at Woodbank.

There you go folks....Mecca for them that like a good sulk. 'ROWDY HILL', now maked with signs (that white square is one). Mr Ainscoe is going to tell you more at a later date... Posted by Hello

The new David Bailey

No, not THAT one! We used to have a player called Dave Bailey at Totts you know. Anyway, for those that haven't yet seen, Nick and co have been providing match photos from most of the 2nds games, and they're fantastic - will someone try and get some for the 1sts? There's a link over on the menu now! Check out Jedi's batting and some super shots of Shunter pummelling the bowling to all corners!

Weather looking grime!

Just checked out the beeb weather forecast, and it looks at best that it could be a on/off day with light showers expected. Bugger. Still, there is still the pilgrimage to 'Rowdy Hill' to look forward too.

Rochdale Butchers

Just to let everyone know - I'm having my ankle pins removed tomorrow at Highfield - so if you hear any bush-pig squealing - that'll be me!

Monday, May 16

Marvellous!

Think it was Ashley who said that to an opponent ...

"That was never LBW"
"Read it in the Bury Times"

Lots of big scores over the weekend (Dalians 296!!) - and Leesy taking a hat-trick for Springhead II!?! Well I never ... pity the weekly forecast is for mainly showers, another hard track would have made next weekend's game REALLY interesting!

read it in't Times

Paul - you congratulate everyone bar the one person who could have put the run down as an extra - unfortunately, when the umpire does not signal, then the run goes to the batter and therefore against you.
You were subsequently fined for being carted........

Up, Up and Away!

Well done again to Big Bird for his century and 5 for on Saturday - what a star! Thought it was an excellent team performance, solid batting throughout, super bowling and we fielded pretty well too, capped by Nelly's great catch!

By the way, Skip, if you're reading, I'm still loose ...

For those that don't know the scores:
TSJ 229-4 (Paul 21, Dasher 19, Bird 102, Nelly 20odd, Scunners 44 no, Smithy 10 no)
Ashton 58 a/o (Bird 5-5)

And I still say that "run" in my first over was a leg bye ;-)

Tuesday night

TSJCC TeamTalk:

Where were everyone??? A beautiful tuesday night and the turn out for nets is 4, that is poor especially after both teams lost at the weekend, lets hope for a better turn out next week

Happy Birthday!

Guess who's notched up another year?

Congrats Birdy!
Lads - time now to forget last week: you can disect what happened until daisy comes home - all I know is 200 is defended more than not (esp 40 overs). With Dash winning toss and batting first get 250 on Saturday and then prove you can defend a total....
Looks like best possible 1st team - 3 batters have got 50's and Nelly is not one of 'em!
Really looking forward to it - don't let me down - COME ON!!!!

Weather or not.

Whether the BBC can be trusted or not could be argued all day but if their weather forcast is right then it could be some dry conditions all week and a hint of sun even. I do hope it stays fine and drys out the wickets for some good quallity cricket...... and a return to winning ways for both teams. Roll on the weekend!!!

225 ...

Indeed, I said to several people that we should have got at least 225. We had 160odd with 10 left. Again though, we can't blame the middle/lower order, it's tough to come in and hammer it to all parts from ball 1. We should again credit Fothergills bowlers with some plaudits because they bowled well at the death to restrict us to 200.

As Dickie said ... we play our game our way and they play totally differently. We don't really have players with the kind of cross-batted hitting ability they did. More power to them for that - we just bat stylishly (he says recalling in horror the awful hoik which saw his stumps flattened) ;-)

Yesterday

Whilst agreeing with all your comments Paul, it is also fair to state that our score of 200 was perhaps 20 - 30 short of where it should have been from the position we were in. The short boundary on the boggy side mean't that realistically our score probably only equated to 150ish on a full size pitch. I agree that we didn't bowl at all well collectively, and therefore didn't really exert much pressure on their batsmen.

Fothergills were a much different proposition from last year, and I agree will no doubt finish in the top half this year.

Inconsistency

There were two major reasons we couldn't defend 200 yesterday:

1. We bowled far too much rubbish; almost every other over there were 5 good balls and then one long hop/full toss which went in the lodge/over the trees etc. The figures speak for themselves, Scunners, Nel and Matt all went for 47 off their 8, Russ 35 off 7 and me 22 off 8 (though I was lucky with a couple of slips which fortunately weren't capitalised on).

2. Fothergills are a very useful batting side and the addition of new players has transformed them into a team which we all felt would be good enough for a top 6 finish. Obviously it's early days but I'd predict the top 6 teams to be Catholics, Robbies, Dalians, Ourselves, Fothergills and ELPM - Robbies are looking really strong!

Match yesterday was played in a great spirit and I'm looking forward to going up against them again.

Really wish I could have played Saturday; thankfully Helen's well on the mend now.

Next weekend

It's all a bit quite..... what when wrong yesterday lads, i thought you were in a great position? i see Roch Cath Club have not had the best of the weather and Robbies seem to be hitting some big totals.
Nevermind lads i'm sure next weekend will be a return to winning ways ...hopefully

Saturday, May 7

Rain, Rain Go Away...Please

I take it will be a case of water pool at the meadows this weekend then?

CORRECTION

Chris is a 'big bugger' from Bingley rather than Keighley. I know! to us Lanky's just another non descript small town in sheepsh*g land.

Let's hope that we can make his 1hr+ drive worthwhile.

In fairness to him I have said that should there be any doubt whatsoever about the game going ahead in the morning I would ring to avoid him travelling.

Bring it on!!
